Hello! In June, 2006, the executive board of the IOC selected three candidate cities among the seven applicants. They are PyeongChang (South Korea), Sochi (Russia) and Salzburg (Austria).
Actually, Sochi and Salzburg raise no objection with me, what cannot be said about PyeongChang. Well, I hope it is quite obvious that South Korea will use the good opportunity of Olympics-2014 to speed up the re-union process. Honestly, I don't care about their re-union. But why the hell do they think they should use Olympics as a means to solve their own internal political problems? Why do they dare to spoil holiday for allk of us?
Olympic Games have always been indifferent to politics and that's what a love about them. I hate politics! Let Olympics go free of politics! I hope the Olympic Committee will share my judgment and after all choose Salzburg or Sochi. These two cities are worth hosting Olympics-2014.

You love the Olympics, cool.

I may love the Olympics. I know I used to.

Unfortunately the American coverage by NBC is far too US-centric (such a term and who on A2K would imagine that I might employ it?).

When ABC had the Olympics we got to see the best athletes in the world competing and winning. If they weren't American --- tough sh*t!

Now NBC only wants to show the results of American athletes irrespective of whether or not they have any chance of winning.

I want to watch the best of the best compete and I want to be informed of the most interesting stories, irrespective of the nationality of the players. I will always root for the US athletes, even when they have no chance, but given a limited amount of time I can commit to The Games my preference is to see The Best, not only the Americans.

(Note: I don't care what the nationality may be I am sick to death of the story of the athlete who comes to the X Olympics with a cause because a loved one has died.)

Americans can't compete in certain events. Ski jumping for one.Thiss being the case, I am marginally interested in learning if the American contestant finished 21st or 18th, but I have no interest in spending time viewing his mediocre performance.

Americans, at least in the NE, have no problem establishing an affinity with the country of their forbearerss --- assuming the American athlete sucks. I root for Americans, followed by the Norwegians , the Irish, the Swedes, the English, and the Germans (in order of their ability to win).

Every four years (two if one considers the Winter games) I bet my father-in-law that the Norwegians will ultimately beat the Italians. It's a fool's bet for him in the winter and a crap shoot in the summer but it makes the games interesting when I don't have a Yank to root for.

Over the 31 years I have been married to his Italian/Puerto Rican daughter I have made $1250 in wagers. It would be more still if Alberto Tomba never took the field, but who wants to be greedy?

Bets anyone?
