Hi everyone,
I was offered a job in Sydney last week. I have never been to Australia, but will be flown out there by my prospective future employer early next month to familiarize myself with the city prior to accepting the offer. Naturally, I have been spending a great deal of time on the Net over the last week investigating the city, but it seems rather difficult to get a good idea of the sort of income which would ensure a comfortable lifestyle.
Any indications on the sort of income that a single guy, early thirties, would require to live comfortably in Sydney will be much appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Ciao
The expensive part is housing. Don't know what a liveable income would be though.
Could you define what you mean by "comfortable" sherwood1?
Wiki:
Quote:The World's Most Livable Cities is an informal name given to any list of cities as they rank on a reputable annual survey of living conditions. The two best-known are the Mercer Quality of Living Survey and The Economist's Worlds Most Livable Cities.
The Economist Intelligence Unit's livability survey report said Vancouver, BC, Canada and Melbourne, Australia, "with low crime, little threat from instability or terrorism and a highly developed infrastructure," are the two most livable cities in the world, having tied for first place.[1]
Australia's other major cities (Sydney, Adelaide and Perth) all claimed positions well inside the top ten - strengthening the idea that Australia is one of the most livable countries in the world.
If one assumes you will enjoy an above average income (and if you are being flown out here, it's a fair assumption), then one may conclude you'll be very comfortable indeed.
Well - the average wage is about $50,000 now.
Average doesn't give you a very comfortable lifestyle. It depends on your needs.
As Wilso says - depends on where you live, housing, etc.
Where abouts is your planned office - do you know yet?
prolly $100,000 a year.
$800 a week for mortgage repayments on decent house + another $500 a weeek for everything else = $1300 a week x1.4 = $1820 before tax x52 = $94000 a year. yer, close to 100,000
Good advice skot
Welcome aboard mate.
Sherwood1 has disappeared into the forest!
