Town tries to shame dog owners

CHELTENHAM, England, May 5
A British town hopes to shame dog owners into cleaning up after their animals by drawing circles around piles of poop.

Cheltenham officials say that the tactic, combined with other measures, appears to be working. But some residents are not so sure, The Daily Mail reports.

Under the new system, dog wardens who come across piles of dog poop spray paint red circles around it. If the mess is still there after a week, they add a yellow circle with a white circle going on after two weeks.

Jamie Anning, a Cheltenham native, wishes the poop would just get cleaned up, although he said the circles make it easier to see so passers-by do not step in it.

"Have they not thought about the health risks of leaving this mess out in the open? Some of the pavements look like a weird dirty protest in the Tate gallery," he said. "And I dread to think what the smell will be like in the summer as it gets even hotter with all the poop lying around."

Why not save time and just spray-paint circles on the dog's butt?

Better to notice the problem as early as possible.

(If you make an actual product that does this, I want 5% of the millions you make from the idea.)

Why not jam a stick of dynamite in the poop and light it??

I was kind of hoping they were spray painting the owners. What shame is there in circling a pile of dookie? It's not like someone could name your dog as the owner - poop's poop. (well, an owner might recongnize their own dog's poop).

I think there's something peculiarly English in the notion that this might possibly work.

Tried that with a housemate from hell, and cat pooh once upon a time.

We put ribbons and flowers on the piles of pooh, in the hopes he might notice.

He didn't.

He noticed a little bit when we put the pooh in his room, though.

I'd be ashamed.

Did they not put little flags into the heaps a few years ago in a German town?
Never heard, if it had any effect!

Yes, two years ago, in Bayreuth, about 2,000 littel flags

I couldn't find later news, identifying this as art .... or as an anti-American demonstration.

I was wondering the same thing. So what, they put a circle around poop - you don't know which poop it is - a better tactic would be to put a picture of the offender (the human) sticking out of the poop.

I hate people who don't pick up their dogs ****....especially when the dog does it's business on the sidewalk or in my yard.

It's nasty, disrespectful and lazy.

I want those people to be hunted and shot with a poo pellet (that's a bullet made of frozen poo).

I'd rather have them hit with freshly made poo rather than frozen that way it will stick to the target.

I am feeling vicious today.

That's true, but I was thinking the gross out factor - fresh poo is much more nasty.

Well, if we are going to do that....

First we must feed a dog a LOT of greasy, people food. Then we wait.

Once the dog has defecated all over, we scoop up the runny mess and load into a water pistol.

We then proceed to hide around corners and squirt anyone who doesn't pick up their ****.
