The grammar is so bad that the riddle doesn't make any sense.

It is copied correctly, and it sounds really dumb. I have been so upset form it for days. I need to know the answer to it, but I can't find anyone who really does! I just need help...I give you cookies!

PEOPLE
PEOPLE
PLEASE!
It's not "Why do birds fly south in the winter?"
It's "Why do more birds fly south THAN in winter?"
Those other answers about it being to far to walk are wrong...it's like a one word answer! Please understand! Thank you for your consideration! You have been all very helpful to me.

I know, jarrodlee.
I'm trying to make the riddle make sense. The "one word" hint could conceivably mean that the key is in one word of the original formulation. "THAN" is capitalized. Maybe it means that "THAN" should become "N THA" ("in the"), yielding a question that makes sense. ("Why do birds fly south N THA/in the winter?") And the answer to that question is, "because it's too far to walk."

(Note, I'm not saying that's right -- breaks down at a few places, such as the second "in.")
