George got me thinking.....What song would you most like played at your funeral?

I mean, let's face it, you've got REALLY love a song if it's the one you want your loved ones to remember you by, huh?

Mine would be "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen, not because of the haunting melody but because of the lyrics and the fact that I ADORE Freddie Mercury. (May we have a moment of silence please?)

Of course, me being me, I have an unnecessarily large life insurance policy with which my best friend has vowed to throw a huge party with lots of happy music and alcohol. I've sworn to haunt her if she doesn't. Twisted Evil

The Martian Hop:

We have just discovered
an important note from space
The Martians plan to throw a dance
for all the human race

Papa ooh mir mir papa ooh mir mir papa ooh mir mir papa ooh mir mir
Ee-ee-ee ee-ee
I got into my rocket ship to see the Martian Hop
I saw the planet shining red so there I made my stop
But as I opened up the door and climbed the ladder down
I saw the Martians on the floor a-dancin' to this sound
Ee-ee-ee ee-ee the Martian Hop ee-ee-ee ee-ee-ee-ee

I saw I was the first one there and so I was surprised
To see the Martians twist and stomp before my very eyes
They did the locomotion and the hully-gully too
I couldn't name a single dance the Martians couldn't do
Ee-ee-ee ee-ee the Martian Hop ee-ee-ee ee-ee-ee-ee

Now right around the stroke of twelve the dance had just begun
They earth kids parked their spaceship down on Mars to have some fun
And so I left my friends, the Martians, stomping on the ground
And even though I'm back on earth I still can hear this sound.
Ee-ee-ee ee-ee the Martian Hop ee-ee-ee ee-ee-ee-ee
(fade out while repeating "papa ooh mir mir")

Although Chumly's choice now has me considering Mr. Spaceman by The Byrds Razz

Woke up this morning with light in my eyes
And then realized it was still dark outside
It was a light coming down from the sky
I don't know who or why

Must be those strangers that come every night
Those saucer shaped lights put people uptight
Leave blue-green footprints that glow in the dark
I hope they get home all right

Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Woke up this morning, I was feeling quite weird
Had flies in my beard, my toothpaste was smeared
Over my window, they'd written my name
Said, so long, we'll see you again

Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Aryan pure supermen
Ja we ist der supermen
Super-duper supermen
Ist this Nutzi land not good?
Would you leave it if you could?
Ja this Nutzi land is good!
Vee would leave it if we could

We bring the world to order
Heil Hitler's world New Order
Everyone of foreign race will love Der Fuehrer's face
When we bring to der world disorder

When Der Fuehrer says, "We ist der master race"
We HEIL! HEIL! Right in Der Fuehrer's face
When Der Fuehrer says, "We ist der master race"
We HEIL! HEIL! Right in Der Fuhrer's face

I s'pose you'll all think I have a sick sense of humor, but ever since I posted this thread I've had Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" running through my head.

It's a dead man's party
Who could ask for more?
Everybody's coming
Leave your body at the door

Yup, Danny Elfman's finest work.....

Of course, there's always "Bitchin' Camaro" by the Dead Milkmen...or "MTV Get off the Air" by the Dead Kennedys...."I Want to Be Sedated" by the Ramones?

Maybe I just need a good night's sleep....

Picture this: For my memorial service at church, the casket is rolled
into the door and the music starts with the "Stripper song".
What a riot!! Laughing

Ha! I was definitely considering Tom Waits. I'd even pick California Stars, but cannot. That would be a tribute to the Monster more than to my life. And Sugarcubes? Love'em!

I thought for a long time that I'd pick Edith Piaf - Je ne regrette rien... but that's my father's choice.

I don't have a choice yet. I have to think this one through carefully.

Eh, musn't grumble. I'm not living amidst of genocide, and there hasn't been vast earthquake around here either. In the grand scheme of things, I guess that means I'm doing pretty good.

It's not a song -- but on my funeral, I'd like them to play Mozart's Maurerische Trauermusik.

Callas singing Gluck's J'ai perdu mon Eurydice Act IV 1961 (as it says on the list) - it always stops me in my tracks..

some latin jazz (will have to pick just one..)

some stones, maybe Going Home.. or Sympathy for the Devil

There was another thread on this, back in 2005. Interesting subject.

One of the cuts from some of my italian cd's

A bit of Verdi..

Will think some more and come up with a list.

Do You Realize?
- The Flaming Lips

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize
Do You Realize that everyone you know
Someday will die.

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize

I'm thinking I may want something cheerful.

Perhaps that Cat Stevens song from Harold and Maude. Though still, not good enough, it's not 'mine'. I still don't quite know what I'd have played. I think I'll have someone else choose.

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
cause theres a million things to be
You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
cause theres a million ways to go
You know that there are

Chorus:
You can do what you want
The opportunitys on
And if you can find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
You see ah ah ah
Its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know

THe question would be: Do you want your funeral to be an happy event
or something more emotional?

When friends of mine died last year in a car accident, everyone was
asked to wear something cheerful to the funeral - Hawaiian shirts, and
colorful clothes. We all got a necklace made out of fresh leis, and
the entire funeral was a remembrance of the good fun times we've had
with them.

I kind of liked that the Monty Pythons sang "Always look on the bright side of life" when Graham "Brian" Chapman died. John Cleeses eulogy was also remarkable.

In his eulogy for Graham Chapman, John Cleese wrote:
I guess that we're all thinking how sad it is that a man of such talent, such capability and kindness, of such intelligence should now be so suddenly spirited away at the age of only forty-eight, before he'd achieved many of the things of which he was capable, and before he'd had enough fun.

Well, I feel that I should say, "Nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard! I hope he fries. "

And the reason I think I should say this is, he would never forgive me if I didn't, if I threw away this glorious opportunity to shock you all on his behalf. Anything for him but mindless good taste. I could hear him whispering in my ear last night as I was writing this:

"Alright, Cleese," he said, "you're very proud of being the first person ever to say 'shît' on British television. If this service is really for me, just for starters, I want you to be the first person ever at a British memorial service to say 'fück'!"
