Equus, the site I looked at may be out of date now but according to that Tom Custer is the only man in American history to be awarded two medals of honour. Seems odd doesn't it that most people have never heard of him?

O.K. I'm going with J S

and since I have to go out shortly (daughters birthday) I will give you clues for free, till tomorrow.

You indicated he was real, as "every American knows". Did this person, although British, have some importance to America?

This game is becoming much too time absorbing.

So as not to have people who want to play the game waiting for ages I have been looking in on the computer every few hours, even when no one posts for days at a time, but this is getting to be more of an occupation than a fun game so I am bowing out, I wont be playing again.

The answer to JS is James Smithson who gave the U.S A. the smithsonian institute in Washington DC

Happy playing people.
