I find this an intriguing idea. Nasa's Odyssey spacecraft orbits Mars and snaps shots of it's surface (using infrared to measure surface temperatures). They found formations that seem to be caves - 7 of them. Caves would offer a more moderate climate, protection from UV rays and solar flares as well as other events that could destroy any lifeform on the surface.

For some reason when I read "Caves on Mars" it prompts me to sing "Pigs in Zen".... That's all for now.
..i will read the article...
Oh to go Martian spelunking in spring.
if you want me out of your thread, let me know. i just need to avoid dissertation writing at all costs.
I just knew there was a scifi book on the subject. The theory of life hiding away is tantilizing.
Edgar, I'll go with you!
Fascinatin' stuff, Lil' Kay--thanks.
Dag, you are a very naughty girl.
Dag--you oughta be getting near the end of your "completed by..." date for yer diss. If Ize on yer committee , Id be trackin your on line actrivity down and asking how yer doin.
BTW, whats your topic(excuse me if Ive asked this before , Ive forgotten and I celebrate my senility, I dont run from it)
This kept buggin' me, so i went out and found the motion picture i saw in which Martian caves figured prominently. And that was a 60s potboiler, Robinson Crusoe on Mars. Worth a few laughs, if you can rent it really cheap, or get it free from the library.
And now, for something entirely different . . .
Bears on Mars ! ! !
They have global warming there too. Odd, huh?
CJ - no one on earth believes that global warming isn't due to natural cycles. Some of us believe that this time, the cycle may or may not be playing a part in an otherwise man made mess.
Now. Back to Mars.

Just so that gets pinned. Now, back to Mars.
what gets pinned? quoting out of context? ok, consider it pinned.
That is certainly not quoting out of context by any definition. Nothing more than parroting.
Yes, parroting. A part of what was said.
If I say something like: "I don't mind people dying. I just don't like when the cause of their death is unnatural" and you quote me saying "I don't mind people dying" you will still be parroting, but sending a completely different message than I had in mind.
So parrot away, but don't expect to be taken seriously if this is how you want to play.
Outta here.
Do you believe in leprachauns?
Can anyone here draw me a sine wave?
Mars. Yahoo news featured a story on water at the south pole. Ice, I mean. It looked like there was quite a bit of it.
I find it intriguing that they named the caverns after women. Is it some sort of male sexist notion to name the caves Dena, Chloe, Wendy, Annie, Abbey, Nicki and Jeanne? I've gone out with women with those names.
