@spendius,

I would venture to suggest that Clare Balding knows more about horseracing than you or me, Spendy.

And the rest of them can read an autocue as well as their male counterparts.

@McTag,
I don't think she knows more than I would if I had been born where she was.

I'm not complaining about that anyway. I am complaining about half-wit social engineers shoving these women in our faces to make some point or other which seems to obsess them.

You've caved old chap. The onslaught has overwhelmed you.

@spendius,

Maybe you think Mary Warnock, Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, Mary Archer, Hillary Clinton would have been better employed sewing cushions at home and making their husband's tea. Probably happier too, and more fulfilled in the role nature intended for them.

@McTag,
I most certainly do Mac. Especially Mrs Thatcher.

@spendius,
Anyway Mac--Golda was a bit mannish I thought. She had a well-developed moustache. I often wondered whether the Queen of Sheba looked like that. It's amazing how we imagine her to have oozed dusky and languorous sensuality after reading a few romance stories and allowing our imaginations to run away with themselves.

And Mrs Clinton often sounds like an NFL commentator.

@spendius,
The Starbucks affair is interesting Mac. 600 retail outlets with no customers is a pretty dire business proposition I would have thought.

I assume the sneaky down-thumber is a Starbucks investor.

@spendius,

Who bothers with the thumbs up/down anyway? I never think of it until someone mentions it.

Full many a gem, of purest ray serene
The dark unfathomed caves of ocean bear.
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air

@McTag,
It's to do with the company we are keeping Mac. It lowers the tone. We are drawn to a "prestigious" site where experts are said to gather for enlightened discourse and then find ourselves in the company of sneaky 1st grade callowness.

As Justice Secretary he was "subject to an oath to uphold the law," , the Rt Hon Chris Grayling, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, said.

Indeed he is. So are Members of Parliament, I think. Actually everyone, with or without oath.

Isn't it exciting Mac? They'll be dancing in the streets in Nelson and Colne tonight.

I don't think that McTag will join them in Denton and Reddish.

@Walter Hinteler,
Just heard on BFBS that the Army has approved the first British soldier to wear a turban instead of a bearskin on ceremonial duties outside Buckingham palace.(A Sikh serving with the 1st Battalion Scots Guards.)

We've still the 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards stationed nearby. They train the "drum horses" here, but no Sikhs are among them ....

@Walter Hinteler,

Well that's interesting.

He's probably one of the last remnants of the famous "Sikh and Destroy, for King and Country" contingent of the McKhyber Rifles.

Regiments are being merged now, to save money I suppose. Shame.

No, he's just 25 years old.
And as far as I could find out, the army has 25 serving Sikhs who are already allowed to wear a turban instead of the regimental headdress in certain situations, but this guardsman will be the very first to wear it instead of a bearskin.

@Walter Hinteler,

Stony ground.

I hear it takes a whole bear to make a bearskin headdress.

I wonder if they've got a union?

The Right Honourable David Cameron, at Her Majesty's pleasure still the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, said today, the UK must learn from Germany and take a "more Germanic approach" (okay, not you, but schools, colleges and businesses).

So you'll get the € and stay in the EU, I suppose Very Happy

@Walter Hinteler,

He said that? Well, I think he's right.

Not pop music, though.
