@spendius,

So you think the redacted Cameron-Rebecca emails might cause Dave a few problems?

I think so too, and not just with Mrs Cameron.

@McTag,
I think if she gets convicted of anything she might pour it all out to pass any time fruitfully. It is very ladylike of her to give them all time to think about things.

@McTag,
Did you see Rod Stewart Mac.

I'm astonished with so many things these days that it's all blurring into a state of permanent astonishment without any one of the things causing it being particularly in focus.

Anyone else hear Amos Oz on Radio 3 last night? He was recorded at The Sage, Gateshead, talking about a two-state solution in Israel/Palestine.

He's a star.

You can reprise it on iPlayer.

You're welcome.

@McTag,
They should make him Foreign Secretary. We could do with somebody who knows how to solve the Palestinian problem.

@spendius,
It's an Israeli problem, no?

Did anyone else see the programme filmed in Israel on the subject of food, by Mr Ottolenghi on BBC4 last night?
That was marvellous. I'd like to go there, if I could sample some of those dishes.
Maybe I will.

Look out for those programmes, remember the name, it's most interesting and very engaging.

I presume it's on the I-play feechewer. I'll give it a go until something stupid is said.

You do disappoint one, Spendy. Amos Oz is one of the foremost "liberal" commentators on the Middle Eastern scene, an Israeli, and an author and authority of note. If you can't listen to him for more than two minutes, I don't think the problem is with him.

@McTag,
I doubt Spendi listens to anyone for more than two minutes, he spends a lot of time in broadcast mode.

@izzythepush,
I watched the two hour long film Builder linked on the financial situation. I back-tracked it a few times as well.

I've been studying Veblen's Absentee Ownership for two months. I listen to anyone worth listening to. The sort of shite you just posted is not worth a blow on a ragman's trumpet.

And why the "I doubt"? Are you not sure? It is a sneaky rhetorical trick.

What interest am I supposed to have in Israeli food? Does my lack of interest in such a subject justify such a snidey assertion?

When the guy stuck his nose in a bunch of dried leaves and started waxing lyrical I was out. I haven't the time to watch that stuff.

@izzythepush,
BTW izzy--I hope you don't think that making disparaging remarks about my capacity to listen is proof of your listening abilities. You made a bit of a song and dance about not watching rl's link videos and I did give Mac's suggestion a try,

And I don't spend as much time in broadcast mode as some do on here. Why you pick me out for that offence, if it is such, I can't imagine.

I had a post on this thread recently concerning my interest in home-brewing.
The response was desultory but I didn't start whinging about the lack of interest or making insulting and uncalled for remarks about it.

Isn't the idea of A2K to broadcast opinions and info?

@spendius,
I was just pulling your leg. A bit of harmless joshing that's all.

Btw, I am interested in your home brew antics. I've only tried beer once, found it a lot of work, prefer brewing wine. However, last time I was at a proper home brew place in Somerton I was told beer brewing is a lot less hassle now.

Btw, my response to RL's videos was as a result of sitting through one and a half hours of them.

Mastication porn in one narrow sense, and I must say I don't watch the plethora of cookery and dining programmes we seem to get these days. I found it interesting, and mentioned it here, because it had the germ of an idea about how peoples in the middle east are beginning to share at least some aspects of their cultures.

And also because I like travel documentaries.
I'm enjoying Michael Portillo's new Great Railway Journeys programme, last night in Budapest (including food in the produce market!) Bratislava and Vienna.

On the TV news this morning we learned that Australian police had discovered a large haul of illegal drugs being smuggled hidden "in a steamroller".

How long has it been, do you think, since any of our road repair vehicles were powered by steam?

These expressions have a habit of hanging around, independent of their original meaning.
We "tape" things without using anything so old-fashioned as a tape recorder.
We go for a "sail" on a "steamer", an unintended mixed metaphor even.

No doubt you can think of more examples.
