@McTag,

Will the money talk loudest? Or will the Rangers be booted down the leagues?
I wouldn't like to say, but I fear a fudge, sorry, compromise.

@Rockhead,

Is that not a" tire", for you? Anyhow, all seems to be well, thanks for asking.

At the moment, I'm going out to post another letter to the local authority to tell them why I'm not paying their parking fine (unpaid) penalty charge.
They're threatening me with the magistrates' court.
What next, the bailiffs?

What about the ladies who screech, howl and grunt when they are playing tennis?

Anyone else think this is horrible? To say nothing about it being unsportsmanlike too.

On-topic comments only, Spendy.

@McTag,
I imagine that the BBC make representations to the authorities to try to ensure that matches involving such ladies take place off camera as much as possible.

It is odd, don't you think, that ladies doing it is far more annoying than when men do it. I suppose that feminists are equally annoyed but are constrained by their fatuous credo to pretend that they enjoy it.

The women I know can't bear to watch the games in which the squeaky ladies take part and despite enjoying Wimbledon turn them off. Which is the explanation for any representations from the BBC which is a feminist organisation and thus in somewhat of a difficult position regarding these very important matters.

What about the strawberries though? That's interesting for anybody asking an expert about changing social affectations.

@spendius,
Just heard Eric Sykes died, another great lost to us. Here he is with one of Spendi's favourites.

@izzythepush,
Sykes was great too. But 89 isn't bad and smoking big cigars as well.

What have we lost? It beggars belief what passes for humour these days. I don't think it is possible to have a proper sense of humour without finding the antics of human beings idiotic.

It was American Medical TV series that started presenting the patient as a dignified person in their own right. Not something Laurel and Hardy would ever have contemplated.

It grates on my nerves and on the nerves of everybody else who has mentioned it both men and women.

It cannot be an affectation at this level of tennis. To do it on purpose would take concentration away from the shot. So it must be a natural sound relating to a human body making that much effort. It is therefore not to be disapproved of.

For us all to find the female form of it grating on the nerves must signify some unconscious repulsion to the female engaging in extreme effort.

To put it more simply--we sense that women should not engage in violent effort as Ludovici said.

It's a real objective test for the feminists. I would love to watch a feminist sit through a match between two particularly aggravating ladies and pretending she's enjoying it because she daren't not do.

At the scientific level it has something to do with one or more of the sound frequencies in the shriek being madness inducing in those subjected to it.

So you are quite normal Mac in this regard. What irony though for the BBC. Their audience share must nose dive when two shriekers are at it. And there is no way I can think of to stop it as long as women play competitive tennis unless maybe they are required to play in proper lady-like attire.

I don't agree with that. I think it is something they learn through their coaches, to allow them to put extra zip into the shot.
But of course it must affect their opponent. Maybe that's why it's catching on, with neither player willing to be intimidated (or out-shouted).

I can. Give the organisers the option of cutting the appearance fee or winning prizemoney for habitual and determined howlers- 50% should do it.

@McTag,

Did you ever think a group of Scottish chairmen would take a decision against their own financial interests? Neither did I, but that's what they seem to have done today. Rangers booted out, and down to goodness knows where.

Will they even be IN a league? It remains to be seen where they might be placed. Maybe in one of their own. They could hire themselves out next season for exhibition matches, if they can hold on to some of their better players.

That's hilarious Mac. You disagree with me and then explain exactly what I meant. And some clown voted such idiotic confusion upwards.

We have idiots thumbing up idiots.

Any suggestions sillier than that should be sent to Lord Leveson. He's an expert on silly suggestions. Or he should be after the number he has heard.

Well, I always laugh at Mock the Week, but I don't want to turn this into a top 20 living comedians thread, so I won't elaborate further.

@spendius,
Did you see the pensioners on Newsnight telling the minister that if he interferes with bus passes he can look forward to a long period in opposition?

It seems that the alternative to bus passes is chemical tranquillity.

It's not silly at all. They would be saying to the howlers "you are taking an unfair advantage, ruining the spectacle, and damaging the tournament.
We disapprove. If you are intent on winning by these means, we will discourage the practice by cutting the money you get."

They all laughed at Christopher Columbus, when he said the world was round
They all laughed when Edison recorded sound
