@izzythepush,

Djokovich has got a lot more snap in his play now. When the going gets tough......

@McTag,

7-5 in the fifth is not a bad performance by Murray. I think he can be British today. He was playing a great champion at the top of his game.

Shame isn't it, to win a grand slam you have to beat one or more of Nadal, Federer, and Djokovich. Tall order. But wee Andy chose to be a professional tennis player. Shame he carries the hopes of the nation on his slender, gangly frame. Where is Tim Henman when you need him?

@Barry The Mod,

I think statisticians and actuarial chaps advising the Cons will see a huge increase in benefits claims over say ten years. So they've got to do something about it.
No doubt too the newspapers find the most egregious anomalies to report on.
But accepting that, it still seem a poor decision, and one which has devastating effect on some recipients.

It used to be that families did their bit. Now the state is expected to do everything. And now the money's not there. So something has to give.
Maybe if they could concentrate on unpaid taxes for a while, we could buy some breathing space.

@McTag,
There's a theory Mac that too much concentration on unpaid taxes reduces the total take.

What's your Plan B in the event that the rulers, after many years of hands on practice, have got the balance about right. They would need to be complete idiots if they haven't.

You just want to sink your teeth into fat-cats. Terrier like. Admit it. You almost have done with their representatives on the front line once or twice.

Boris got a very poor reception in Trafalger Square this afternoon.

@spendius,

That's more than your usual bollocks, Spendy. It was Helena Helmsley who said "Taxes are for the little people". There is a whole industry available, for those who can afford it, dedicated to tax avoidance. Before we even start on tax evasion.

P.A.Y.E people, small businesses and Harry Rednapp pay for everything else. Even illegal wars which we vote against.

@Barry The Mod,

Hey Bazza that link did not work. If link it was.

I think Bozza, and Mohammad al-Fayed, add to the gaiety of the nation. Although neither can be taken too seriously.
Good after-dinner speakers, I should imagine.

@McTag,
I only said that there is a theory. It is well known. What does Helena Helmsley have to do with it?

The hysteria over Mr Hester beggars belief.

What about the thousands of hip replacements? The breast implants were French. Fair game. Hester is a banker. Fair game. The BMA--hold on a minute. That's Grauniad territory.

I'm not going to argue about the Iraq war but it wasn't illegal. It was approved by both houses. How can it be illegal?

If you invade another sovereign territory after lying to Parliament to carry the vote, it's illegal.
America tried to show proof of a "clear and present danger" to them when there was none. It was all lies, and Colin Powell had the grace to withdraw when he discovered the extent to which he had been duped, and used.

Robin Cooke had the courage to act, out of his convictions. He resigned. John Smith must have been whirling in his grave.

Blair so far has been able to get away with his lies, although he can't appear in public Britain, not even for a book signing. Illegal? You bet it was.

@McTag,
But we were duped on the blanket smoking ban in pubs. And on the hunting ban. We are dupes. We were duped with the lottery. With the Olympics. We are the ones "to whom it is done".

@spendius,

I like the Lottery. I occasionally buy a ticket. It's nice to think you might win something, and some profits go to good causes.

Okay, so it's a "tax on stupidity". And some poor people, people on benefits too, misuse it horribly.
Somebody should write a PhD thesis on this.

@McTag,
I always felt sorry for Powell. He had to address the UN with photos of an Iraq installation with a truck parked one day. The next day, the truck had moved. Um, that's what trucks do.

I think it was Mr Major who hatched it Mac. We had one in the 18th century. It got scrapped.

It looks exactly like the tombola on Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

What's "some profits"? What's "good causes"? I saw one at close quarters. £250,000 for netball courts and ladies to be allowed in the games room.

£4 million for Lord's on condition ladies allowed in the Long Room.

It's another money pump out of the provinces.

Mind you don't win it.

@izzythepush,
Chris Huhne charged with perverting the course of justice. Yes!! If I'd lived about a mile down the road I might have voted for that bastard. Even though I liver in Southampton my bit comes under Romsey. It's a Lib/Tory split so tactical voting is encouraged. The sitting Liberal MP as was, was Sandra Gidley, but I was never going to vote for her because she's an awful person. I voted Labour, the Tory candidate got in, but after the Liberals have turned out to be Tories after all, I can still look at myself in the mirror. I've got a lot of mates in Eastleigh kicking themselves for voting for Huhne.

I am so pleased, this bastard has had it coming for a long time.

@spendius,
I feel sorry for her as well. Especially as he played happy families until after the election. He is a slimy ****, the courst may go easy on her as she was the one who brought it to their attention. Hell hath no fury and all that. The field of candidates for Lib ministerial posts keeps going down, Laws fiddled his expenses, Cable ran his mouth off trying to impress some pretty Torygraph reporters, and now Huhne's up in front of the beak.
