@spendius,

We even brought a whole clutch of diseases which the indians couldn't cope with.
Dynamite combination. Manifest Destiny.

Hey, Kate Middleton's sister looks well fit. And the mother is positively glowing.

The future Princess William of Wales's sister, I should say.

What do I think about what? The wedding?

I thought it was brilliant, an anachronism which nevetheless has the power to fascinate and attract.
The English do this kind of thing so well, and the rest of the world seems to lap it up.
Good that we're still good at something.

@McTag,
I imagine that spendi is getting gloriously and symmetrically hammered today.

@McTag,
I have a question about matrimonial processional protocol. We in AMerica would never ever think of leaving the marriage ceremonies sitting in a Conestoga Wagon. That carriage they used seemed a bit "primitive" what was it?

@farmerman,
It only looks primitive fm. As it ought to do in the service of a primitive ceremony. Whether it ever ends up on a Used Cars lot I don't know but a coach that does is symbolic of the ceremony in which that is used.

@spendius,
You have no artistic sensibility. Just flat out banal common sense and common sense says the sun goes round a flat earth.

@spendius,
Religious stuff..

She radiates a special holiness; the divine presence, the feminine aspect of God, shines through the face of the bride.

This light is so intense that it must be veiled,

@Francis,

Well that's an interesting take on the need for a veil.

Most would surmise, unless they were otherwise advised by an erudite Frenchman, that the veil was to stop others copping a butcher's at what was behind it, until after her husband-to-be, that is.

@McTag,
Before Spendi appropriates this for his pro-christian crusade, let it be noted that it predates christianity..

Home town connection.

What do you give to the future king of England and the father of the groom in the wedding of the century?

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard chose a football jumper from the Mansfield Football Netball Club when she met with the Prince of Wales on the eve of his eldest son's wedding extravaganza.

The Prince of Wales was also made the Victorian club's number one ticket-holder.

Prince Charles has a connection with the Mansfield region from his Geelong Grammar days when he attended the nearby Timbertop campus.

Also, Ms Gillard's partner Tim Mathieson owns a property in the Mansfield region.

Why would you give the father of the groom a gift?

It was a sign of respectability. The prostitutes and the slave women were barred from wearing the veil. I presume it was an institution developed as civilised mankind emerged from primitive promiscuity.

The discarding of the famous seventh veil was tried in Paris, I gather, in the late 19th century. For two nights, after which the police intervened and restored order.

For what it is worth there has been a marked increase in the covering of females in the pub since the financial crisis began in 2008.

Your generalised assertion that I am engaged in a pro-christian crusade is due to a misreading of my position which is that we are not ready for an anti-Christian world and that there is a hypocrisy involved in the anti-Christian project which I don't think should be imported into classrooms. The pro-evolutionists and atheists are actually all good little Christians underneath that scientific pose they put on for certain subjective purposes which I have sought to expose in as polite a manner I can on those threads which purport to be dealing with these issues.

Your generalised assertion, inferring that I'm pro-antichristian world, due to..whatever..is simply false.

I'm for a world of tolerance and peace, where all religions can coexist with absence of religion.

You can call it utopic..

It's "utopic" alright. Pie in the sky utopian. Tell us how to get there.
