@Ticomaya,
Maybe because they sponsor the Grand National.

@Walter Hinteler,
It has something to do with that and other races they sponsor. For sure.

I think Americans would be about as interested in our political discussions as I am in theirs.

Anyway Spendy, plenty of people have called you a nutcase and to my knowledge you have never agreed with them until now. Respect.

I've lost my faith in Gordon Brown, son of the manse, but I'm damned if I'd replace him with that overfed selfrighteous arrogant toryboy Cameron.
I'm almost at the point where I'd wish a plague on both their houses.

@Walter Hinteler,

Well that's true.

And Michelle Obama, I like her too.

We have only been shown their photo-op selves. With a camera and a decent expense allowance I could make Tico look like St Francis of Assisi.

You'll never make a writer with an attitude like that Mac.

I've always considered Tico to be St. Francis, or at least his twin brother.

@Walter Hinteler,
That's understandable, Walter.

But why are we speaking of other Saints on a day such as this?

@MontereyJack,
Many Thanks, MontereyJack ! I will be dropping hints for my next birthday. I have read descriptions but have never been happy with words as a substitute for taste, even though there is the use of the tongue in both.

Anyway--why do you keep going off this thread. There's a hot election in the offing and it might be interesting for a few Americans to listen in on a conversation about it between an ex civil engineer (retd.) and a nutcase.

Who, me? I don't go off the thread as much as others. But I can't guarantee to stay on-topic.
Politics? That's where we miss Steve. I wish he would come back.
And we miss Smorgs for sex, of course. I wonder what the old dominatrix is up to now?

I think Vince Cable is the most respected politician in Britain right now. And he has a good line in humour. Shame he doesn't head up the LibDems.

Why do the Tory leaders all have a full, wet, bottom lip? Cameron, Osborne, Gove. The all look as if some big boy has stolen their lollipop.

Yes but Mr Cable can say common-sense stuff without it being of any significance. Mr Brown has to contend with the problem of what would happen if we all started behaving common sensibly.

A feather bed for Mr Cable and a bed of nails for Mr Brown.

I'm always suspicious of anything that sounds easy in politics or human affairs generally.

@McTag,
If you're going to get fed up with little twerps as easy as that Mac you might as well reach for the remote.

@spendius,

Starkey's another one with a petulant, prominent, wet bottom lip in a sour face. You can tell just by looking at them that they mean their fellow man no good.

Power might corrupt them if they were not already corrupt.

@McTag,
Mr Starkey has not appeared on my radar. I'll look out for him.

Oh to be in the Cleb when Sir Humphrey goes in to consult the old sweat.

Scotland beat Ireland in Dublin. Good game, too.

Having a small whisky to celebrate.

how about

Gordon Brown
Is going down
Without the slightest trace
Will anyone regret that?
No
I'd tell him to his face.
