(and I'm thinking...what did Darling overclaim on his cleaning bill, £350? American, and other European, politicians must be looking on in amazement)

The BBC had posted some time ago a Guide about Europe's MP's packages.

Sems to be different to the UK in most countries.

In Germany for instance:
Quote:
There are no official rules for second homes which MPs may have.

If they have a second residence, they are still liable to pay tax like everyone else.

As for extra allowances, like other members of the public, German MPs have to fill out an annual tax return, which would include any allowance.

@Walter Hinteler,

I think Alastair Darling had paid in advance, a six-month cleaning seivice contract on his flat, and made a legitimate claim.
Then he was made Chancellor, and moved to 11 Downing Street.
Seemingly the "mistake" is, he didn't pay the money back pro-rata for the time he wasn't there.

Like he didn't have anything else to think about.

@the prince,
You're catching the media hysteria my dear.

The British Government has reserves of resilience of immense proportions.

@spendius,

Now Hazel Blears breaks ranks. With friends like these.....

Never liked her, little grinning ventriloquist's dummy. She surely doesn't think she can be promoted??

@McTag,
I think the hand has been overplayed. I hope so anyway.

Our P.M. is being grossly maltreated.

@spendius,

Do you honestly think that? I do. But it was obvious he and Ms Blears weren't getting on. He should have got rid of her months ago.

But he dithered and swithered. No more Mr Nice Guy, Gordon. Boot them in the goolies.

@McTag,
Don't you think Mac that the postive discrimination in favour of ladies in politics is looking a trifle silly.

We do know that Hazel dyes her hair. So she a walking, talking, sleeping fib. And without corsets she would probably get around easier rolling.

Yes. Blair should have taken his Babes away with him, and good riddance.

I see Ms Blears has gone back to Salford to "reconnect with the grass roots".
Well, she's nearer to those than the grass tops.
Hee hee hee I just thought of that.

Lord Sugar of Amstrad?

You couldn't make it up, these days.

It'll be Lord Spendy of Tetley's next.

@McTag,

Remember George Brown, who became Lord Georgebrown or something?

Well Mr Sugar should become Lord Suralan I reckon. Better.

@dadpad,

I'm there.

And as I said, my wife is half Koala on her mother's side.
She is apt to chuck a tubie on the barbie.

Hazel Blears. She evidently thinks a week is long enough in politics to try a comeback, with apologies and "sincere" contrition.

I don't think the people in Salford will be fooled. If she's not deselected, she won't be elected again.
Bloody BNP was elected for the want of 1000 Labour votes. She shouldn't be forgiven.

By the way, because my laundry's seemingly not up to date (must have a word with the staff), I opened a new packet of knickers this morning. George trademark, so I must have got them in ASDA, if you were wondering. Quite comfortable, on short acquaintance. 100% cotton too.

Anyway, later when I was on the throne, I noticed (glancing down, like you do) some bold red lettering on the label. With some difficulty (since the label was upside down) I read what it said. It said

KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE
VON OFFNEM FEUER FERNHALTEN

and that obviously begs the question: what kind of people throw their cotton keks on the fire? Why does the manufacturer think we have to be told things like that?

The thing is Mac that the behaviour exhibited both in regard to her dipping the unguarded till and her resignation were perfectly normal and natural feminine character traits. She is very feminine you must admit. I bet she's very jolly in a hayfield with a few gins inside her.

Impulsive hubris.
