@Walter Hinteler,

Beer sales have fallen by more than 8 per cent in the first three months of the year, figures show.
The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) said 1.7 million fewer pints were drunk every day from January to March than in the same period last year.

That will be because I am no longer a wee fresher, but now in my second year, with actual work to do.

@The Pentacle Queen,
It's best to remain a "wee fresher" as long as you can Queenie.

Closing the pubs is a long term objective. After that mandatory television as Orwell predicted.

On a note of a more elevated cultural level, Britain has a female poet laureate for the first time since you created the position over 340 years ago. Carol Ann Duffy writes pleasing yet deceptively simple poems like this one that captures the full scope of evolution. Its called "Mrs DARWIN"

@The Pentacle Queen,

I'm so glad the Gurkhas won the vote in the Commons.

Fair's fair.

Ayo Gurkha!

@McTag,
It's the only way to civilise them Mac. Once they have a Test Match team two car families in suburbs and women's magazine only takes about 80 years which is nothing in that "unimaginable" vista of time Darwin talked about.

@farmerman,
Well- Bernard Shaw did say that once women got the vote conversation would be about ovaries.

It was very prophetic I think.

I'm waiting for a woman to do the commentary on the Ayr Gold Cup. Any producer's niece can read off an autocue with that crease between the breasts on display and the elegant legs on the floor shot. Even Mr Obama can do it.

@spendius,

That woman who reads the weather on Sky News is the absolute business, imho. When she's finished with the weather report, I've no idea what she's just said.

Cold here today, wet, windy, and miserable.

@McTag,
Yeah. Doesn't she stride about authoritatively. And what imperious legs eh? I bet her fellah does the washing and cleaning.

@Ticomaya,
Yeah--it can be a bit like that Tico.

But I think she's only kidding. She probably lives in a two room flat in Bayswater with holes in the shared bathroom floor lino.

@Ticomaya,

Oh yes. She prowls that stage like a panther, the heels just a bit higher than absolutely necessary, the skirt just a bit too well-fitting for comfort.
The pencil skirts wrinkle most alluringly.
I think the secret is to make it all seem almost accidental, while the effect is carefully contrived. Works for me, anyway.

@McTag,
Angela Rippon wrote about chaps writing in to tell her they had been wanking when she was reading the News. With the sound off.

Perhaps you should write in to Sky Mac. I'm sure it would make her day.

What about that Hazel Blears eh? How do you fancy that?

@spendius,

Hazel Blears used to work in the City Solictor's office, on the same floor as me.
She didn't look any better then.

Hey that Arsenal fullback seems to have made a habit of falling over at awkward moments.
Arsene seemed a bit sad, as well he might.
Pity Steve's offline at the moment, he's probably wreathed in smiles today.

@McTag,
If UEFA don't rescind that red card they are bringing the game into disrepute.

It cost me £20. I should have won £60 not £40.

@spendius,

That was a diabolical liberty at Stamford Bridge. I saw at least three pens. There has to be some sympathy for conspiracy theories in this, I think.

Still, Barcelona v ManU is a better prospect for an interesting final.

How would you bet on that, Spendy?

@McTag,
I backed MU months back at 5 to 1.

I'm inclined to think that last night's ref. was under instructions to do what he could to get Barca into the final and, all things considered, I am in favour. But Drogba should have prevented him having the option. That guy flatters to deceive. Chelsea are a bunch of thugs.

We've been (translation: I had to join Mrs. Walter) to a "garden fest and lifestyle exhibition" (translation: high entrance fee and expensive luxury stuff).

We (translation: Mrs Walter) bought some tv-nibbits ...
