A bit of football trivia: Sven-Goran Eriksson was sacked today as Mexico's national football coach, a day after a 3-1 defeat in Honduras.

@Walter Hinteler,

Maybe the Curse of Shilton will be visited on Diego Maradonna (a bit late, doubtless) after Argentina's result against Bolivia.

@McTag,
Quote:
I went to a concert tonight, Sibelius 5th and Four Last Songs (R Strauss).

I'm not a great Lieder man myself but I must say that the young woman made a pretty good fist of it.

Was it at the royal festival hall? I think strauss's four last songs is probably favourite piece of music, i saw it at the barbican in january.

@The Pentacle Queen,

No, it was a Thursday concert at the Bridgewater Concert Hall, Manchester.

Not a sell-out, but a very enthusiastic audience who evidently love their R Strauss.

That depends on your penchant for agony.

A gripping Grand National today, and a very good day for the bookies.

Well romantic agony seems like one big lol to me really. Is it real agony if you're getting pleasure from how aesthetically pleasing it is?

Parky is right about Jade Goody and the media circus, in my opinion.

@McTag,
**** Parky--he's that chap who is so greedy for money, despite him already having quite sufficient of it, that he has prostituted himself in the advert for "leaving something for your loved ones" ( a free Parker biro for calling the number) to such an extent that one can only reach for the sick bag.

He represents the paltry and wretched in national life more than most.

How do you know how much he's got?

Yeah very true spends.
It's not exploitation if you agree to it.

@spendius,

A man of principle, an increasingly rare animal these days it seems.

Actually I agree with you, and have similar thoughts about TV ads by the likes of Carol Vorderman selling iffy financial products to people who don't need them and can't afford them.

@McTag,
Everybody I know is disgusted with Parkinson. The public made him rich and famous and then he shafts them. And it's so mawkish and cloying too.

@spendius,

My point was about Jade Goody and the media circus.

Did it take a Parky to deplore the media fawning over a brainless, talentless, racist, charmless, know-nothing-and-proud-of-it Essex slag?

Poignant and brave as she reached her end, no doubt, but what was that all about?

@McTag,
I've no idea Mac. A safety valve to release pent up emotion maybe.
