What about injuries Steve and fouls and red and yellow cards and kicking the ball into the stands and taking ages over the throw ins, free kicks, corners, penalties, arguing with the officials, fighting and all that other stuff that cause playing time to be about 50 minutes.

You never thought of that did you?

It would only be ABOUT 500 nil and then some would be offside and after infringments.

I sincerely trust that you confine your propensity for the Steve Martin Syndrome (STS) to estimating football scores.

Well. It looks as if number 1 son of mine will grace your misty shores in mid year. Big event in a 16 year olds life.

You are such a sweet guy Mac.

If I had a 16 yr old son who expressed a desire to go to Australia enough to cost him a grande or two I would arrange an appointment for him with a counsellor. Absolutely.

Somebody in authority ought to be able to explain to him that the mid-teenage girls here are not that bad as to require such painful and agonising escape procedures.

No worries, Australian youths can earn their fare shearing sheep or threading corks. They are a self-reliant race.

I hope it doesn't rain on the campsite enough to put out the barbie, anyway.

Tonight we went to see "Notes on a Scandal" the film with Judy Dench and Cate Blanchette.
Very good, very sombre, both actresses terrific. Not a feel-good film, and more one for the laydees, I feel. That comma is important.

All commas are important. That's why people use them a lot. It makes them feel important. Anybody who knows where commas fit properly is an important person automatically.

Song for Smorgie

I can wash out 44 pairs of socks and have 'em hangin out on the line
I can starch & iron 2 dozens shirts 'fore you can count from 1 to 9
I can scoop up a great big dipper full of lard from the drippins can
Throw it in the skillet, go out & do my shopping, be back before it melts in the pan
'Cause I'm a woman! W-O-M-A-N, I'll say it again

I can rub & scrub this old house til it's shinin like a dime
Feed the baby, grease the car, & powder my face at the same time
Get all dressed up, go out and swing til 4 a.m. and then
Lay down at 5, jump up at 6, and start all over again
'Cause I'm a woman! W-O-M-A-N, I'll say it again

If you come to me sickly you know I'm gonna make you well
If you come to me all hexed up you know I'm gonna break the spell
If you come to me hungry you know I'm gonna fill you full of grits
If it's lovin you're likin, I'll kiss you and give you the shiverin' fits
'Cause I'm a woman! W-O-M-A-N, I'll say it again

I can stretch! a green black dollar bill from here to kindom come!
I can play the numbers pay the bills and still end up with some!
I got a twenty-dollar gold piece says there ain't nothing I can't do
I can make a dress out of a feed bag and I can make a man out of you
'Cause I'm a woman! W-O-M-A-N, I'll say it again
'Cause I'm a woman! W-O-M-A-N, and that's all.

Because she is.

Sorry, Mac...

I had serious scrubbing duties, and now I'm off to B&Q to get a pair of secateurs for a monstrous Hebe.

Okay well then that means that we need another verse on Peggy Lee's song

Show me a bush that's too big and I'll clear it away with one snip of my new snipping thing
My hebe's got the jeebies and my tree's got the breeze-up when I take a gardening fling
I can pare away, square away, tidy and fix all the gardens in the street
Fill a monster skip with brushwood, and keep myself looking sweet
'Cause I'm a woman, W-O-M-A-N
