@Steve 41oo,
Oh no he hasn't Steve. Quite the opposite. Same with all the others now he showed them the way. And they are loving it.

They are politicians. The party policies are merely means to get power in a certain situation. That being us lot of dimwits get a vote each. And thus need to be won over. The Ayes to the right the Nose to the left. The Ayes have it. Which mob wails loudest.

They have power in the banks now. They say they will give it up when things "stabilise." That's like expecting a hungry dog to give up a juicy bone.

Do you seriously think they could have swung that past us, especially the Yanks, without frightening us first.

Where was the bailout money before being used to do the bailing out? In the banks obviously. On their assets sheets if not actually within their premises.

Marx predicted capitalism withering away.

I assume it was thought necessary once electronic money got established because the forward planners must have envisaged being stuck with no money in a flash of light when a Goldfinger/ Nick Leeson type pressed "SUBMIT".

not so much withering as imploding.

I am seeking investment opportunities to buy at the bottom of the market for times of recession. What would you recommend spendy? Beer? or Gin ....heroin? What is it people will keep buying despite everything? I think I'm into potatoes.

@spendius,

Yes, these big City bonuses were reportedly being used to buy expensive housing and also farmland.

Land. They're not making it any more (except in Dubai, maybe).

@Steve 41oo,
If you're good enough--yes.

Hey- a bloke in the pub was saying he had a hot-water bottle in the shape of a blow-up doll.

As I'm always on the look out for good ideas I said "What's it like?"

He said- "It's alright but you have to keep going downstairs to put the kettle on to keep the temperature up to the recommended 98.6 degrees F. "

@spendius,

I don't like "alright". I always write "all right".

Bloody Denis Norden.

Of course! That's only proper!

Do you mean that Denis Norden has fallen from the path of righteousness?!

@margo,

I don't know whether it's Denis or his programme producers who should be blamed, but I was referring to his TV shows which are called "It'll be Alright on the Night"

I used to love his work with the late lamented Frank Muir.

Did you not appreciate the complex web of nuances in my joke Mac?

I thought it up leaning on the bar last night.

All I want is a room somewhere
Far away from the cold night air
With one enormous chair
Oh, wouldn't it be lovely?
