@Steve 41oo,

@Walter Hinteler,
its a fact that liquids boil at lower temperatures proportional to altitude/pressure. .

This Boils Law. (Robert Boyle)

and the volume of a gas decreases proportional to the pressure. except if its a vapour. inwhich case

it doesnt.

Poor little motor car. You made it carry you up the hill. It must have been really really tired and hot.

@Steve 41oo,
Additonally: we went up a 20% steep hill in a village (it was marked on the map) .... besides perhaps three more cars (all of course with larger engines, all thought that there should be a check-point, it wasn't).
Even my mother could have overtaken our car ... (okay, using her walking-aid)

@Walter Hinteler,
you heard about the motorist who said to the judge he was trying to go up a 100% hill?

he was fined for driving into a brick wall.

@Walter Hinteler,

Not too many posts on the poor old British Thread. Shame.
Hope Holland did not clog the old arteries too much, Walter.

I'm in the Best Western in Tonopah, Nevada tonite where they have thoughtfully provided a computer for guests.
Had an interesting and hot drive here today across the Utah and Nevada deserts.
Heading for California tomorrow. Millions of photos being taken, hopefully some good.

Lang may yer lums reek.

@McTag,
If you wanted to extend your stay, try wearing a turban and photographing the Tonopah test range.

@Steve 41oo,

Hah! How do you know about that? We drove past that yesterday, previously unknown to me. The missile bunkers (Greenham Common model) are easily to be seen from the road, and there is an airfield. Well, natch.
Amusingly, all the way across these high desert plains, every time we saw a sign it was shot through with bullet holes.

And we saw a dead cow.

Right, where's my deluxe continental breakfast?
