Oh, do enlighten us, spends, chuck!

REALLY... I'm interested in the history of 'heart'.

See you all forgot my birthday.

Oh! I couldn't. Really. There are young minds reading these threads.

I was sorry to read that you were under the weather. I'm glad you are better now. XX.

Amy Winehouse has a mysterious presence. It is almost timeless. It is certainly dangerous.

No - I was in France (Nice) on the 8th and shouted obviously not loud enough or you didn't understand it

I cut down a tree. It was bloody hard work. It was a malus, a flowering crab apple. I dug it out by the roots. It will flower no more. It is history. And I'm so knackered I'm not going up for the paper.

My heart is doing a bit of bouncing too, so I took an aspirin!

I'm an old lumberjack, but I'm all right.

Mac--

If your body bellows a "don't do" at you you are well advised not to do.

Violent sweaty action, followed by repose.

A bit like....

oo-er. A lot of senior gents meet their end in not too dissimilar circumstances.

Have you noticed recently what a racket women make with their heels? Why do they think they can do this?

I didn't like answering this important question myself because I learned long ago that offering explanations for the behaviour of the female of the species is very foolish.

That they "can" do it is easy enough. Giving them the vote is the reason.

But I asked around as to the "why" of it.

I eventually got an admission that it was because it conveyed a feeling of power. I had to drag it out of them. They tried saying that they didn't know but I wasn't having that.

"Dominant??!!" I offered with one eyebrow raised.

"Well---yes---I suppose you might say that I suppose" is a composite version of the consensus.

Women like clippy-cloppy shoes!

Thanks for the birthday greetings, Walter. I'm dead chuffed.

A bit like what? Muckty?

A bit like the last coat of wallop on the ceiling before a snooze?

Spendaux! Didn't know you cared! I've come over all lachrymose now...

But then, I am sentimental.

I was on the web this morning and among other things I played Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" on YouTube and then a short time later after I had made a cup of coffee (instant, with sweetener) I turned on the radio to listen to BBC News but I had inadvertently left it tuned to Radio Manchester from Sunday's football- you may gather from that it was not the radio which is in daily use- and lo and behold or beharken it was Barry White singing "Just The Way You Are".

What are the chances of that eh?

If you see smorgsie tell her I have seen an Amy Winehouse concert and she's in the top bracket.

She's a lady Bob Dylan.

Spendy, you never cease to amaze me.

An anally-retentive old fuddy-duddy like me might have difficulty seeing the artist wrapped as she is in a tattooed, beehived, suicide-haired, drug-abusing, flamboyantly over-made-up package like that, but not you.

I doff my cap to you, sir.

I dpn't like her any more now.

I'm not that familiar with her body of work, to be frank.

But I think she's got something.

I hope they can give her something for it.

'twas only a flowering crab apple. But it was dead awkward getting at the roots- no space to work.

I didn't go back to work today...

But I went to Tesco (I hate that place) to buy some cornmeal to make a spicy corn cobbler - needless to say they didn't stock cornmeal (so uncivilised). They only had lard and Polish things...

So now I'm making an cobbler ordinaire.
