Morning, all. Up an at 'em.
Sad to note the demise of the illustrious British Thread.
Are we missing our Boudicca so much? Our She-who-must-be-obeyed?
Our Mae West?
What?
Looks like it's up to you Clary to be our She-who-must-be-obeyed?
I have a feeling you might be more suited to the role than the previous incumbent. She was a bit sentimental but she had a way with words sometimes which was unique in the annals of English literature.
Right I'm driving up to Arnside and Silverdale tomorrow.
It's a nice place, and the forecast is good.
Looking forward to it.
Arnside, where the **** is that?

Dont get in any trouble McT
A place of outstanding natural wotsit.
Most people heading up the M6 looking for the peace and solace of nature (there's the first irony) go for Kendal and the Lakes. They don't think of stopping on the south side of the estuary, quite close by.
Hence, quite select, no crowds, no riff-raff at least until I get there.
There's even a railway line, a stop on the branch to Barrow-in-Furness from Lancaster.

Sounds delightful. Have/had a good stay.

I'm sorry Madame. I thought a "guru-in-training" would understand the expressions of another "guru-in-training.
I'm back now, more of a visit really.
Lovely day, had lunch in a pub overlooking the estuary of the River Kent at Arnside. Fish, chips and mushy pease, marvellous. Not too cheap though.
Note, R Kent + dale gives us the name Kendal.
In like wise, R Lune + castrum gives the name Lancaster
Ow's about that then, guys 'n' gals?
I followed your expedition on a map, McT...

Bonjour Francis. It's nice up there. Took 90 minutes to drive up, but two hours coming back in heavier traffic.
Someday, I'll take a walk in that area...

thats an easy commute for some round here.
Regarding Kent and dale and castrum and something, you're not a relative of Braithwaite by chance?
I cycled to the Chequers at Wareside for lunch today.

nice food good company. The professor in is New Zealand. Deck chair Dave (he rides a recumbent) is off to the Lake district next week.
I've lived there for a bit. To really get into it the afficionados wear hair shirts and cleft biting gussets in their trews for the uphill walks into the teeth of gale blown sleet and hail which they engage in to find relief from the pickpockets who man the tourist industry's watchtowers.
Since all are going somewhere and since I want to make some significant carbon footprints, too: I'll be watching les Anglais sur la promenade from next Wednesday onwards for a coupla days
Oh! Keep the angels at bay, Walter!

Please do, and I would be delighted to show you round.

Okay anyone want to know where I've been today?
We had lunch in the Stockport College Catering Division restaurant, the meal cooked and served by students and trainees, and very good it was too.
The weather was too horrible to do much outdoors, a ferry was washed ashore at Blackpool in the gale and some vehicles got stuck on the A66 in snow drifts.
Bummer.
