I read the FAQ, I looked all around the My Favorites page, I looked all around the opening window of a category I wanted to assign to the Favorites Box. I'm blind but couldn't find it. Actually, I'm deaf but that isn't relevant.

Favorite topics can only hold topics, not categories. You can however subscribe to email updates (note: this means loads of email) from specific forums.

Is subscribing to email notifications of posts in a topic still an option? I'm not finding it.
Just to clarify. I like History. Can I be notified of new posts in the History topic?

go to the individual topics you'd like to keep up with, and click Turn on email updates
(links are located at the top right and bottom right of every topic page)...
