hello!
i am a 28 years french girl, i live near the the D-Day beach in normandy

at first i want to say that i'm not very good in english or american language.
So excuse me if you see some mistakes in my text. i hope that you are going to understand it.
Perhaps you asks yourself: Why did she wants to (try) to speak with us from subject on ecology?... Laughing
In fact my job is about ecology
i work in a old abbey museum in a beautiful countryside (the Perche) with lot of beautiful percherons horses.
My job consist in accomodating schools and i explain them differents natural environments (forest, pond, hedge, kitchen garden, bee-keeping...)
And I try to show them that it's important to protect our planet...)

for me it's also important to speak with people from others country, like you for speaking from our opinions about ecology subjects.
My first subject is about a tv documentary that i saw 2 weeks ago:

here in france, we think (as it's a false idea) that american people doesn't take interest in ecology. But in this tv -doc, it explains that there are lot of american people who use hybrid-car, sun energy, ecologist building... There was also an interview of Daryl Hannah...
I can say that i was a little surprised about this documentary, because in fact in france, tvs , newspapers... wants to show that paris is the ecology capital of the world. In fact it seems not being the reality....
i would like to have your opinion about this subject and i 'd like to know what is really do in the States (and in the other country, of course) for protect the planet

thank you
bye
i hope that you will understand my message Very Happy

frenchpercheronne:
I will speak with you on this subject.
I am an older man with almost grown children. I live in Australia.
Do not hesitate to ask for further explanation if you do not understand something I write.

My first question is what do your words "percherons horses" mean I do not understand this phrase.

My work is in farm forestry. Mostly encoraging and helping sheep, cattle and wheat farmers to re-vegetate (plant trees).

Sometimes an income can be earned by selling the timber from the trees they plant then planting again after harvest. sometimes they plant just for the environmental benifits.

There is a big problem with erosion here in Australia. Planting trees helps stabilise the soil.

We also have problems with salinity (salt in the soil). Planting trees lowers the water table and allows salt to be washed further down into the soil profile.

Here is an Australian website you may wish to explore Greening Australia

Yeah, I figured that out -- too late. (On the other hand, it is a beautiful horse.)
