Seriously, that thing either moved very differently from most sea life I've seen, or it was indeed sick. It looked almost dead already to me - like someone was pulling strings to make it move.
Did you check out those teeth? They're like burr grinders.
It looked like it was about to croak....
it was definitely gasping....
