an orange diamond in the sky in 1999

In April 1999- I arose from bed at 2 am to go to the bathroom. When I looked out the window I saw an orange diamond in the sky. It was glowing. It wasn't moving. I kept looking out the window every 10 minutes while it was still there. In an hour it had already faded away. It was much bigger than a star-it was as large as the sun and moon appears in the sky. (or maybe even a little larger) Two weeks later my mother received a letter in the mail from her relatives overseas. We found out my cousin died at around the same time I saw the orange diamond in the sky. I wasn't close to my cousin though..I only met her once when I was 3 years old. My cousin died of hemorrhage bleeding after a pregnancy. They said she carried the baby up to her fallopian tubes instead of in her uterus. What do you think?

What else can a reasonable, intelligent person think.

There is a GOD…and the GOD decided to put an orange diamond in the sky at a spot where only you would be able to see it…as a sign that something terrible was happening somewhere in the world to a cousin you had met one time.

Right?

I think that this shape in the sky was a shape in your mind's eye. I've heard of no one else who saw it, and such a thing would probably not have gone unnoticed.

Maybe the diamond you saw was the working light of an industrial crane or something. They sometimes work at night, when they need to do repairs on roads or bridges that are heavily trafficed during the day...

I'm pretty sure I say exactly the same thing even though I've never met your cousin. The thing is I'm not sure if it was 2 a.m. or more like 2:30 a.m.

You might want to do a little research on what is sometimes called " The Great Diamond" of Virgo. It is formed by the stars Spica, Denebola, Arcturus and Cor Caroli. I think you can only see it in the spring. The stars are very close and very bright and for a time they look like a solid object, many people think it is a UFO. You could also contact a planetarium and ask if anyone else observed anything on at the time and date of your event.

Form the scientific standpoint: There is nothing Astronomical that would explain this sighting, to put it simply. It may be meteorological but it is verrry unlikely. Your description is similar to a phenomena called a sun-dog but the stated time of day and duration makes that impossible. As for the GreenWitches' ...the Great Diamond of Virgo... this is wayyy past absurd. I have been active in amateur astronomy for decades and have never heard of this. Of the four stars named only Spica is even in the constellation Virgo.

Greeny: Try breaking the Prozac in half next time.

The description is also ridiculous. These stars are visible at the same time in the same sky. They are not only visible in spring and are best placed for observation in the fall. But to say they are so bright and so close as to appear as a solid object is laughable. They are some of the brightest stars in the night sky, but the full moon (aprox. mag. -13) is more than 10,000 times brighter than any of these stars (aprox. Mags. 0 to 1). The separation between Arcturus and Spica, for example, is 32 degrees! For comparison the full moon is about seven tenths of a degree across. In other words they are so "close" over 35 full moons would fit between these two stars. The others have similar separations. That ANYONE would see them as a UFO only tells you something of what is in the observer's head NOT what is in the observer's sky.

If it is something else then it is unimportant as to what it was, where it came from, who "sent" it, etc. from an external perspective. What is (or may be) more important to you is what, if anything, it signifies to you. And what, if anything you should do, think, or feel based on the experience. But this analysis must come from inside of, and can only be done by, you. Hope that helps.

A true fact about the constellation Virgo: It is known as "The Realm of Galaxies". Virgo contains the nearest major galaxy cluster. With a large amateur telescope (size does matter) literally hundreds can be spotted within the boundaries of Virgo. Those with more modest equipment can still spot dozens of galaxies.

An easy way to determine if a zodiac constellation is currently visible at night is by the current astrological "sign". The sign is current when the sun is within its boundaries and therefore that constellation's stars are hidden by the sun. The sings to the left and right of the current sign would also be hidden in the daytime sky, the next two would be near the sunrise and sunset skies, etc. The exact opposite constellation to the current sign would be at zenith at local midnight.

PS to GreenWitch: I was only teasing and not trying to be mean. Very Happy

PSS to GreenWitch: As for breaking the Prozac in half; I did some consulting to a major pharmaceutical company for several years so I can say this with some professional credibility: neither you nor any of your science advisors should ever change dosage or discontinue any meds without consulting your doctor, especially the major anti-psychotic drugs.

Do you believe in God, Frank Apisa? I used to completely believe in God. But since last year I began to have doubts. It's a long story. Who else believes in God here- and is there evidence he exists? This is just a simple question. Now I don't completely doubt the existence of God- I believe he may or may not exist. I'm not sure. In the year 2005 I was scared of God. Long story.

I looked at the calendar when I saw this orange diamond. It said "New Moon" The moon was at its new moon phase at this time so I think this orange diamond had nothing to do with the moon. During the new moon phase the moon isn't visible.
