I was thinking the same thing patiodog....

If love was a verb...it would be the same as it is now.

If raindrops were raindrops we'd all be fed.

If love were a fruit roll-up, what flavour would it be?

Certainly not strawberry.

Laughing Didn't think many people would comment...

Just trying to point out how some people view the wide topic of love.

Some say it's an emotion, deep emotion...

Some say it's an act, a verb if you will...

etc, etc, forever and ever

Thanks for sharing opinions

Love is why we all exist
To this day from the primal mist
We're children born from deep affection
Let this truth help us find direction

Lust is why we all exist
A point, I think, that's often missed
We're children born of an erection
"Love," I fear, won't pass inspection

Some with love and some with lust
Do fire up ephemeral dust,
(Though all's the same to egg or sperm),
Your stand on this over firm.

patiodog, I disagree
While there is some truth to see
In what you say, it's untried tactic
Have you not heard of prophylactic?

(this is great. A philosophical discussion in rhymes Smile )

Condoms unencumber lust
The pill it can make mustn't must
Some the diaphragm do trust
The sponge has since come back from dust

But would you call these tools of love?
True, they've seen the mountings moved
But, once done, like unkept dove
Lust's fancies fly, and love's not proved.

No, I'd call them tools of lust
A means to howl without distrust
Or fear of mighty consequence
A procreation's hindering fence

So lust can live it's unhindered life
And you don't have to take a wife
But if you wish to honor the living
By miracles of birth giving

Then there is no better way
Than lovers joined in night and day
Hand in hand to foster offspring
'tis love, not lust, of which you sing

Come...doggies aren't renowned for love,
Nor giving thought to things above
The starving tummy, questing nose,
We may not seek for love 'mongst those!

For, when theyv'e had enough to eat,
They're off to seek a bitch in heat,
And, while their hearts may well be thumping,
It ain't for love, but rather humping.

But, can we draw from canine lore,
An argument that there's no more
Than slav'ring tongue and lustful wiening,
Can we say there's never meaning

More than this in coupling hot?
I really say that we cannot!
For dogs, while well enough I find,
Do not encompass an'mal kind,

There's fur and feathers, scales and chitin,
Exoskeletons that frighten,
Bills and muzzles, mouths that chatter,
Hooves that clop, and paws that patter,

And some amongst these mate forever,
Paw and claw and fur and feather,
Not only in the time of lust
But until one returns to dust.

And even doggies have a yen
To find a human being, and then,
To such a one they'll give their heart
And stay with them 'til death do part...

Damn, people, I can't compete. And I've got to go to the lab in a minute or two.

So, an anemic parting salvo, with apoligies to Ogden...

Rabbits hump
Horses dump
But they've not
Love got.

Good point about the canine ways
And creatures since the start of days
There's love and lust, but what came late
Was instinct heeded in this debate

So now I see and think that I
Will my statements modify
Love is no cause for you and me
But without it this world would be empty

'Cause after all this canine lust
Some months will pass and on earth's crust
The mother bitch gives birth to offspring
That cannot take abandoning

Not until some time has passed
And they've learned to be strong and fast
Before that they need mother's care
And lust is not a factor here
