I recently was reading some books on buddhism and one said thier was a physical hell do to ones own karma which was wierghed down with evil. Is thier truelly a hell in the buddhist doctrine? Or, as someone i know said, just a part left over from ancient chinese mythology mixed with the Buddha's teachings?

Hell, in the buddhistic sense, is a state of existence in which we are totally at the mercy of our circumstances and unable to understand it. It is when the mind obeys the mindless body, when every action is aimed to satisfy temporary needs that never stop coming.

I've posted this link a few times now... If it doesn't work you have to copy it and paste it into your web browser. It's worth it.
