If you hate telemarketers, and live in the US, relief is around the corner. A new law mandates a National "Do Not Call" registry, whereby telemarketers would heve to remove your number from their marketing lists.
This website provides information about getting on the list. You can register online July 1.

weve had this in Pa since Nov 2002. Its really great. the loophole will be for telemarketers to move offshore.
Here in Wisconsin we've had a similar system available for about a year now. It does seem to work. There are specific sign-up windows, however; a period of time in which to enroll for the next publication of the Do Not Call list. Once signed up, you become a "Member" of the next list. The lists are updated a couple times a year, I think. We optred in last spring, when it first became available, and have noticed a sharp decline in unwanted solicitations. Once in a while, one slips through, but so far, every one that has called has apparently accepted that we are on the "No Solicitation" list once they were informed of the fact. At first, there was a bit of confusion, because many telemarketers were unaware of The List. That no longer seems to be the case ... word has gotten out nationwide about the several states that have such lists. The National List will likely be the deathstroke for lots of telemarketers. I hope the upswell of anti-spam legislation will have a similar effect on e-marketers. I'm sick and tired of daily offers for instant riches, lewd companionship, and potions claimed to enhance body parts I don't have.
I signed up for this here in Mass this past year and it seems to work just grand. I suggest anyone who hates those annoying calls to sign up!
Here is another approach to dealing with telemarketers, be more offensive than them:

You do us all a great service by publishing this link.
Thank you.
Cav, that is hilarious!!!
williamhenry3 - You are certainly welcome. I know how people are so disturbed by the constant barrage of calls. As soon as I saw this, I jumped on it!
Thanks Eva, I thought so!
revenge against telemarketers
Hello All,
I like that this forum exists for folks like myself who HATE telemarketers. However, the few posts I've read where people discuss how they deal w/telemarketers is sort of a letdown. One person said she "boldly" told a political caller that her daughter wouldn't vote for that candidate no matter what. Can we say "yawn"??
I recommend a much stronger method. You've got to remember, these people are the ENEMY, to be dealt with by any means neccesary.
I make it a point to ask the most obnoxious, personally invasive questions I can think of. They wanna talk?? Sure, we'll talk, but I'm picking the topic. I've asked telemarketers if their parents have commited suicide out of shame that their child was a telemarketer. I told 1 guy that he'd intereupted me while I was boffing his mother.....he didn't like that 1 bit. He actually threatened to come to my home. But like the subhumans that they are, he didn't live up to his word.
These people are lower than whores on the street. And should be treated as such.
I ask female callers if they like "unconventional" sex. Anything to make them as unhappy about the call as I am.
I"ll feel like I've done my part when I bring a telemarketer to tears by what I say.
I'm never threatening, that would be wrong. But I am rude. Turn-about is fair play. What's more rude than someone coming into your home UNINVITED and striking up a conversation you don't feel like having??
Remember when you were a kid and you & your friends made harmelss crank calls?? "Is your refrigerator running?? Ya better go catch it." This is just as good, excpet I don't waste my time or money making crank calls --- I wait for the wrong people to call me & then I give it to them.
Sure they make you mad, but don't give them permission to ruin your evening or your dinner.....have some fun w/them. If all of us treat telemarketers like the garbage they are, people will stop taking the job and that will put the industry out of business.
I've ranted enough. Have a beautiful summer everyone and keep up the fight. Because it is a fight.
Hey, bobg, did you listen to the audio I posted?
Check out:
www.jimflorentine.com if you haven't already.
the audio
Unfortunately I don't have speakers on my computer at work. However, I'll assume that it's some delightfully priceless taunting of a "phone-whore".
and by the way
Thanks for the welcome.
I like the little Ronald McDonald by your name. "Eat ****" what a fun little double meaning.
Very cool.
Hey, I'm a proper chef, it seemed appropriate. Jim Florentine makes a living torturing telemarketers, and puts them on CD. All the info is on the site. Too bad about the speakers...I will post this clip too, for everyone else, and for you, if you have speakers at home.

Florentine here is definitely more annoying than the telemarketer...simple but brilliant stuff...
Have not received a call from a telemarketer since I signed up in NY. Now if we can somehow get rid of the Spam.
Howdy, bobg, and welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing you out there on the boards.
A couple things I like to do to telemarketers:
"May I speak with Mr. Timber?"
"Mr. Timber!?!?! Hell, we ain't heard a thing from him since that awful mess with the priest and those two nice young kids".
That one works every time.
Another that is good for folks who want to sell me Security Systems or Home Improvements:
"Sure, I'd love to talk to your sales rep. Have one stop by any time. Tell the Rottweilers you have an appointment, and they'll clear you through the Shephards. Pay no attention to the Retrievers or the Husky ... they aren't security staff no matter what they say. Oh ... and don't trust that one-eyed Pitbull ... he's a sneaky little S.O.B."
The web site to register for telemarketers and email is
