a spy is hidden next to a gate and listens to the people who know the password.
a guy comes by and the guards ask if he knows the password, because if he doesn't know it, he will be killed inmediatly.
the guy says he knows, so one the guard asks: "if I say six, what will you reply?". "three", the guy answers, and he is allowed to pass the gate.
another guy comes and the guards ask the same to him.
This guy also seems to know the password, and the guard asks: "if I say twelve, what will you reply?". The guy answers "six" and is allowed to pass.
The spy thinks: "i think i got it" and he comes out of his hiding place and walks to the gate.
Again, the guards ask if he knows the password, the spy says he does. One of the guards asks: "if I say ten, what will you reply?".
The last thing the spy ever did, was saying "five", because he was killed inmediatly after giving this (wrong) answer.
What did the spy had to answer?
and what did he had to answer if the guards asked for an odd number, like seven?
