Restraints Fray as Nuclear Age Grows Globally
By WILLIAM J. BROAD and DAVID E. SANGER
Atomic officials estimate that as many as 40 additional
countries have the technical skill, and in some cases the
required material, to build a bomb.

Is the US urinating in the wind in it's attempt to control nuclear proliferation? Further why is it that the US seems t0 be the only nation that really gives a damn?

That's funny AU!

If the US gave a damn, it would

- Fully participate in the non-poliferation treaties. This would include an end to our own further development of tactical nuclear weapons. To say that no one except the US can develop nuclear weapons is hypocrisy defined.

- Clamp down on our new buddy Pakistan who just developed a nuclear weapon.

- Stop exhausting all of our military strength (and money and energy) on Iraq which had a hypothetical "WMD" program, but everyone knew they had no nukes.

- Spend the money we need to to secure nuclear material around the world.

The Bush government is trying to use nuclear weapons as a smoke screen to rationalize its insane foreign policy.

But it isn't doing the most basic things that we could do to retard proliferation of weapons.

I would just thinking... what would be the word for the opposite of proliferation?

Is it "prochoiceration"?

If Pres Bush were really serious, he wouldn't be trying to aid the Indian nuclear program, as they are not a signatory to the NPT, and refuse to put all facilities under international inspection - only the civilian functions.
