Hmm. That's not the song I was thinking of. Try this one.

Why by Annie Lennox, the album version is great, but in the {typical} live version, she does not have the choir backing her up...choirs tend to be a nice effect, but the artists voice usually gets washed out by the crowd. In the live version, you get to hear all the power in Annie's voice....awesome.
This is toward the end of the song...
This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I'll never tread
These are the dreams I'll dream instead
This is the joy that's seldom spread
These are the tears...
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel?
Nice one, Gus.
However, I think this is about the most beautiful song he wrote....

I don't have A most beautiful song, but there are a few that make me tingle.
Wrapped - Gloria Estefan
Life - Desree
Where the Wild Roses Grow - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Tiny Dancer - Elton John
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
In the Ghetto - Elvis
Willin - Little Feat
Must put all of them on one CD one of these days...
But I don't think I would be able to do anything else while I was listening to it.
Great songs everyone...
Ellpus, you taxed my funeral song!
I love Cat Stevens.
Nominate this one - brilliant lyrics

nice song, for some reason that just made me think of angel from montgomery by john prine and bonnie raitt
Wow. That is neat. So different and full of LIFE.
Thank you for sharing it!
It makes me think of my dad (now deceased), who was born in Alexandria, Egypt.
The artist has such unguarded, sincere smiles of joy.
Do you know what the song means?
Thanks.
Quote:he embraced islam, changed his name to yusuf islam and was widely condemned for approving of the fatwa imposed on upon author saldam rushdie
I do remember an hearing about an artist not being allowed back the US, but I didn't know it was Cat Stevens! Just read up on some of his controversal history. Seems he's trying to make nice now, with an album coming out.
Such a shame!
Hi, Bawb.
Thanks for bringing this one to my attention.
With about 21,000 views, this guy and song are very popular!
Here's a link to the one I saw, but, I couldn't hear the words very well. He delivers with such passion.

And, welcome to Able2know!
Quote:That one is beautiful. She has a stunning voice. My favorite is actually Cancao do Mar, but I think she probably has better ones.

Oh, my. The more I hear, the more I'm amazed!
Is this authentic Portuguese music? I ask because it sounds a bit like it has Jewish leanings.
Is this music written in the Western style / scales. It sounds like it has different notes in it.
What a voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What passion!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Swimpy.
Hadn't seen Emmy Lou in years!
Such a sweet voice, still.

She's still so pretty.
Don't you just love watching a well seasoned artist. Some of them just seem to get better and better.
Cat Stevens - How Can I Tell You
He sounds so Jim Croce here, or is it just me?
I always thought he was so handsome! I guess I like those Greek men!

Love the video. Wouldn't have thought those colors would work as she puts on her make-up, but the costume and make-up comes together so gorgously!
Love the ending. A great song.

Another great song, dj.
This one's probably not for everyone. Knows when by My Bloody Valentine.

dupre, I thanks for posting the video. I've seen Emmylou live a couple of times. She's the consumate professional, surrounding herself with the best musicians.

The video is pretty. I don't get it?... I couldn't hear the words very well. And what is the name of the band? The comments on the video were rave.
The band is My Bloody Valentine. They were a British group from the 80s-90s era.

I want to thank everyone for posting.
Here's what's going on.
I recently started taking piano (acoustic) lessons again after a 30 year hiatus. (OK, so, I've been busy already!) My piano teacher is a very hip Austin musician and professional, uncompromising teacher.
Anyway, much to my horror, I've discovered that much of the music I know is ancient, as in about 25 years or so. (OK, so, I've been busy already!)
I don't want to be old before my time. And I'm so tired of playing Misty and Moon River and Moonlight Sonata and Summertime and Ebb Tide and ... ugh!
There's so much music out there today, I can never hope to get thoroughly modernized, but I am hoping for direction toward the most beautiful songs (old and new) and enlightenment as to the best artists and some of the current styles, etc.
Of course, I still want to do some classical, and Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly.
Does anyone know if all of Puccini's music has that same quality / haunting sound? Or did he just luck out with Butterfly?
I had bought a theory book to learn the Blues a while back, and realized--Yeeikes!--I don't know ONE Blues song. Not ONE?
My BF sat me down last night to watch "The Crossroads." And I really liked it. I heard that Blues was a precursor to Jazz, so had planned to start with that and move toward Jazz.
But now, I'm thinking, any movement toward amazingly beautiful music would be worth my time.
I don't want to play professionally, so it's just for me ...
Help a girl out, wontcha?
And thanks!

I'm glad you liked it. Basically, it's a song of mourning for the city of Wahran in Algeria. The song is about the serious brain drain from what had been one of Algeria's most modern, liberal cities. All of the young smart people leave because there's nothing for them there. It could be about the whole African continent, really. I'll see if I can find the English lyrics.
Thanks, FreeDuck.
It did have that mourning, wailing quality to it. Done so well.
