ummm. no. Just trust me on this you do not want a tassie devil as a pet

They eat whole animals, hide skin offal bones everything (prefering old road kill) except the bottom jaw and the noise is just incredible. Also they have a killer virus which causes huge tumours on their face and body.

Quote:
A mysterious cancer is killing Australia's Tasmanian devils, whose spine-chilling screeches, dark colour and reputed bad temper prompted early settlers to give them their chilling name.

The world's largest carnivorous marsupial, devils are the size of a stocky small dog with jaws as strong as a crocodile, which allow it to eat up to half its body weight in 30 minutes. An adult can weigh up to 12 kg.

devil tumour

Oh man - this just seals the deal - I definately want a taz!!!

I always thought it'd be cool to own a raccoon. I love the furry little backyard bandits.

I actually looked into it once. They can be funny, entertaining pets, but they take a lot of care. They're smart though, and can understand many words and commands like, "Get out of the cabinet!" Smile

But if you don't pay enough attention to them, they'll get revenge. These smart little dudes know what's important to you. So they'll go rip up one of your favorite pictures or break your favorite antique vase. heh.

Unfortunately, I just don't have the time to give one the supervision it would need.

Oh, I also think it'd be cool to own a fox.

I always thought a tiger would be so much fun to have as a pet. Getting past the space and amount of food they would need, could you imagine a burglars face when they turned the corner and come face to face with "Fluffy"? Priceless.

As much as I would love to own one I would much prefer to keep them alive and well in the wild and just be able to know they will survive. It would be nice to have a wild tiger that knew me and was tame enough that I could approach it, but alas.

I would also like to have enough land to raise a pack of wolves. Again not so much as pets as much as they would know me but still be wild.

Really?

(Yes, I'm gullible, but I can't tell.)

Sozlet and I were just talking about this one yesterday -- we've seen him in our yard, and she thought he would make a great pet. (Can't really tell from the picture that they have incredibly soft-looking fur -- didn't actually pet him, though.)

That looks a lot like a mole from my backyard! Moles are extremely soft. My kitty likes to kill them and leave them on the back porch for me. I saved one one time and held it in my gloved hand while I petted it with my finger...they are tiny...it squeaked the whole time. I let it go in the ivy. It has really big front feat though...

I think Tigers are amazing as well. Love the way they move and look. Would love to pet one. Can't see them being a real good pet though!

Although I would prefer a taz, I do have this one creature that visits daily....

And we have a whole bunch of these little guys that eat away at anything we plant - including my little girls' sunflower. They ate that right down to the stem.

No wild animal should be kept as a pet, unless, of course, it's a wild and crazy beaver.

I think having penguins would be the coolest thing ever.

Same here. I'm bummed that I'll likely never have a penguin.

Someone must have posted this, but if not this video of a pet penguin is cute as hell:

I also want one of them huge snapping turtles from the swamps of New Orleans. If it misbehaves, I can make a nice soup out of it.

My favorites are river otters. Hedonistic souls, they play all day.

But if I had a couple of them I would want their own river for them. Couldn't bear to confine them to a small space.

I wish someone would post pics of river otters.

I guess a dog doesn't qualify as a "wild animal" but I have always wanted a see-through dog...

http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/ClientED/images/hills_dog_cleaned.GIF

The fact that the intestines are there in full view is, frankly, exciting.

Can I count a see-through dog as a wild animal, kicky?

Just this one time?

You may. By the way, get ready, because now that you're back again, the girls are going to come running.

I think Ted Nugent mistook Unclelarry for a rodent and shot him.
