I'd be happy to acknowledge any objective evidence of such experiences. I'd do the same for the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus or any of a thousand more made-up stories, assuming they could be proved. Until such proof comes along, I'm happy to be amused by the antics of "believers" whatever their misbegotten belief.

I only wish you had an open mind.

But you're not so closed that you don't acknowledge that there might be something you don't know?

Who me? Shucks.

No, you know me better than that I hope, snood.

Except for Dys, I may be the oldest hippie on these threads and what does that mean? Nothing. Except I was astral projecting and imagining blue orbs and white orbs and freeing my mind of all sensation long ago. I've sat at the feet of Swami Rama and Baba Hari Das, they've both slept at my house. I've done Hatha yoga and three day meditations and fire breath (pranayama) sessions and chakra balancing and talked for hours with Rolfers and practitioners of Feldenkrais. I still, after sluffing off for ten years or so, do my morning stretchs and my evening affirmations.

Less you think, as my brother the Roman Catholic priest does, that I have leaned too far into the squishier disciplines, I have also done years of Bible study and theology studies and can sing the Mass in Latin, English and a horrible version of Spanish. I've sung black spirituals in whitey- white churchs, rocked them a bit silly and I've sung songs no white boy ought to try in front of black congregations and made them believe my soul was not only saved but was as black as theirs.

Oh, and I have a Power Animal and I once spent a whole summer learning to dance with the Sufis.

What am I telling you all this?
Beats me, it probably doesn't mean a thing,
but I want you to know
that I don't know what I don't know,
but what I do know
is that the ones who go about proclaiming that they know,
that they know the truth,
or The Truth,
that they are special
or blessed
or in possession of The Power
or have the Vision
or any of the other hundreds of proclamations of supernaturalism-----

they are the ones who don't know.

and every time I hear one speak,

I make sure my wallet is pushed down deeply in my front pocket.

Very good, Joe. Except that I think Asherman is even older than Dys. I think he's even older than me and I've got some decent mileage on me, having outlived both Ginsburg and Kerouac (both of whom I knew in NYC when we were all singing along with the Clancy brothers at the Lion's Head in Sheridan Sq. down in the Village).

I knew I could smoke out older farts than me.

I'd forgotten about Ash and always took you for a younger sort of fellow. Why's that?

I don't know, Joe, but I'm flattered. I do still have the heart of a sixteen-year-old lad.
