I spent 3 days in Sedona this past May after a hike into the Grand Canyon with some friends. We stayed in this cute cabin near a river(Foresthouses.com)No TV so we had great conversation. We hiked up to Bell Rock which is supposed to be one of a few vortex's. When we got back into town we were asked if we felt the power of the vortex while up there. Strangely we all felt really good after sitting up near the top, but it may have had to do with resting and eating something. I don't know.
Then we went to a small shop looking for gifts to bring home for my kids and the store clerk taught us how to feel a crystal. Actually trying the method now I can actually feel my computer monitor the same way. Well, I'll admit,I bought a small crystal. My friend bought a Budah and we had our star charts done.
I was officially Sedonafied Laughing

I think I am beginning to understand this thread. Thanks, JL, for the explanation about the crystal. I'm assuming that Sedona makes a profit on selling those things and hence the "capitalism". If I recall correctly, Nancy Reagan was an astrologist. Wonder if she has ever been to Sedona. Razz

Tlaquepaque once a very nice shopping/eating area that has developed into the guru/crystal, alignment of the planets, the wearing of triangles over your head, buying genuine (almost) Katchina dolls all the while driving your new-latest-biggest SUV legally allowable. The entire area around Sedona is quite beautiful with landscaping almost unimaginable, I used to (40 years ago) drive through the canyon stopping and camping and splashing in the pot-holes. I tend to hang on the past that I favor.

Ah, so it's a real place near Sedona. I was confused.. there is a Tlaquepaque near Guadalajara, famous for ceramics/pottery.

There is an art center in Sedona that is named after Tlaquepaque in Guadalajara, thus the same name. As Dys said, it used to be an interesting
place to be, with beautiful art and crafts from Mexico displayed.
Now it has become a tourist trap - very sad actually.

Regardless, the beautiful red mountain formation around Sedona is
quite breathtaking. A small creek runs through the picturesque canyon
as well.

Letty, healers/quacks/palm readers and the likes, said that the constellation of the red mountains in Sedona is spiritual, and it will give you energy and tranquility. Over the years, more and more of the healers and healer type
gadgets have become the image of Sedona, sadly so.

Before it was an artists paradise who inspired them to many beautiful
paintings.

Thanks, C.J. I think we often want to believe in magical powers and crystal balls. Is it the age of Aquarius yet? <smile> I read a book once called, "The Deadly Messiah." Had it not been for the fact that the protagonist was an astrologist, the novel would have been quite prophetic.

Exactly Miss Letty, one believes it's magic and it will be magic Wink
Sedona is magic, but only through the beautiful scenery. The red
mountain formation is breathtaking, so is the backroad leading
up to Flagstaff. Yet, the beauty that one absorbs has nothing to
do with crystal balls and other tools, it comes from nature within.

Besides, chinese Feng Shui uses crystal balls to fight off evil spirits,
that should be sufficient. Wink

Although my friends and I did spend one afternoon checking out the spiritual/healing aspect of Sedona just to see what the hype was about, I would say the main highlight of the trip was in fact the beauty of the landscape and the hiking.
The cabin we stayed in was along the canyon river. If any of you plan on going check out the website I posted, lodging here was very reasonable and it was peacefully quiet.

I've been there too, osso. The Tlaquepaque in Guadalajara is no
comparison to the one in Sedona, architecturally alone it is so much more
diversified and typical Mexican.

I haven't been there since the sixties. From the photos on google images, it doesn't seem to have changed much.
I was in Sedona in the early eighties. Bet that has changed...
