A word from Israel: Americans want us trigger war against Syria

Samec! I thought it would be of some interest for you if I tell you about current situation in my country.

Do you know what is now going on here? Alternation of generations in the government currently takes place, which means that younger, careless and more ambitious Hebrew politicians are now taking places in the Knesset and conduct impolicy that in particular resulted in our defeat during the latest war against Hezbollah. Today they keep carrying out an order of Washington and try to involve Israel into a new unwanted war against Syria.

General Amos Yadlin, military intelligence head of Israel said last Sunday that Syria will take a pattern by Hezbollah and will try to recapture Golan Heights. It's a provocation! But why Syria, you may ask me. You are right, Iran must be America's next target, not Syria; however, there are certain difficulties starting war against this country. Basically it has to do with the UNO and China, and it will take heap of time to square the matter with them.

At any rate, the US needs a war right now and it all is coming from republicans of America. They are in power now but they need to involve America into another war before November to boost community spirit of Americans once again, or they will lose November special election as a start of presidential race, and will finally fall in 2008 when it comes to presidential election.

You see now? Israel obeys America though it's clear it is not in the interest of my country. What is going to be to us?

As of today, it doesn't look as though any American-backed war with Syria is imminent. Secertary of State Rice has expressed the Americans' profound gratitude to Syrian security police for saving the US Embassy in Damascus from being invaded -- and possibly blown up -- by terrorists.

Sorry Chaimy, but your post shows a total lack of understanding about the American people and our political system.

Hmmm....funny. Usually it's the Zionists who endeavor the Americans to fight their wars for them. Iraq for example. Saddam had no weapons that would reach American soil, but guess whose soil he could reach? Israel.

I cannot imagine Americans supporting another war with blood running in the streets of Baghdad, and no stability in Afghanistan (with no Bin Laden caught) and no withdrawal plan from Iraq. The deficit is in the trillions, and to engage in another war would be disastrous. Starting another war to "boost" popularity at this time is a joke. The ace-in-the-hole, if any, is more terrorist activity. Play the fear factor with people and one never can be certain of the outcome.

The notion that "US needs a war right now" is ludicrous, to be generous about it. The problem the Republicans have right now is that they have gotten us into a war in Iraq qhich is so unpopular it will cost that party millions of votes in the next election. If another war was started before the next elections, it would cause massive protests in the streets from the American people. Even those who support the Republican party are now saying that the current war was a mistake. The current Iraqui adventure is costing the country so much that another war could bankrupt the country. Your views are very skewed, Chaimy.

I am reminded of an Israeli member of this site, who, after the United States had invaded Iraq, eagerly suggested that Iran would be next.

Israelis are fond of imagining scenarios in which the Americans ride in, like the cavalry of an old-time western movie, to fight for them the wars they'd like to fight themselves, but for which they lack the wherewithal. There is no reasonable basis upon which to assert that the American people want to go to war with Syria, and as GW points out, this piece displays a huge ignorance of how the American government operates, and of what motivates the American people. This is a pipe dream, which may sound pleasant to war-mongering Israelis, but has no basis in reality.
