You can make the best pizza in that type of oven and you won't even need the door.

You're talking to the British here, Green Witch, even with the best
equipment, they still can't cook.

You're right there, CJ. I have often been told that I have the best equipment, but afterwards, I can't even boil an egg.

LE, the previous owner should be tried for felonious bad taste. In many ways, he has made your job even more difficult.

Beautiful country. Just the views are worth all the hard work.

Be glad that you are not posting on the Baltimore Sun Forum.
I used the words Japanese Pussy video and have been banned for 30 days until October 5 at 3pm. My post was about a cat in Japan. What's wrong with that?

Neither, Drewdad. Sorry I took so long in answering, but I thought the thread had sort of fizzled out and hadn't looked for a while.

The reason we (bruv and me) bought this place, was because they are relatively cheap in that particular area of France at the moment. He's lived there for a while (he lives about two hours from the farmhouse, near Geneva) and so he knows the area well.
We sold a place in London about four or five years ago, and used some of the money to buy this place.
He reckons that this area is on the "up" and there are signs that the Dutch and Germans are buying up places nearby, which is a very good omen.
We hope, in the long run, to modify most of the large farmhouse, making a total of about four "Gites" (holiday homes) so that they can be rented during the summer.
The reason I've come back to this thread now, is that my brother is over here for a while (UK) and he's actually remembered to bring the memory chip from my camera that I unintentionally left down there in the summer.

He's just visited the FH and it looks like we have to do some small repairs on the roof (barn end, fortunately) due to high winds. The lovely willow tree in the courtyard has also come down in the wind, and apparently, ALL the plastic covering has been blown off the polytunnel (no problem, 'cos we weren't growing anything there anyway.....and knowing my brother, the only thing he'd want to grow in there would be <ahem> "exotic" herbs  . )
Imagine..a pile of wacky baccy........we wouldn't exactly be self sufficient, but would we care?

Willow Tree that was <sob>

I'll get the last of the pics posted soon, and then at least I'll have finished what I started.

Done. I'm not sure how I missed that particular pm.

Back to your house, Lord. I went back and was looking at photos of the bread oven, which I find very cool, and was especially impressed with the prodigious size of the mantel.

Littlek might call it creepy, but what the hell does she know? She's from Boston, for god's sake.

The first thing we did, Gus, was to poke around up that chimney, as that's a classic hiding place for money (doubloons, and all that).
There was a story in the French papers not so long ago that a builder bought a place, and immediately found some booty up the chimney which he had just exposed (blocked in years before). With the money, he renovated the place to a superb standard, sold at a good profit and bought another renovation job.
In THAT chimney, he found another bag of gold coins.

So the story goes, anyway.

We were most disappointed. All we found was bird feathers, various small deposits of dried excrement, and a pigs skull in our fireplaces.

Everyone gets what they deserve, don't they? Laughing

Actually, would it be still possible to exchange Franc for Euro?

Did you keep the pig's skull?

A friend of mine was insulating the attic of a house one time and discovered a an old coffee can filled with gold coins.

Not only were the coins quite valuable, but the coffee can, as he discovered on ebay, was worth about 200 dollars.
