This elephant was very cool, even though he was in musth. Elephants do get upset when people come too close and behave like [insert favourite idiot].

Hi Gus. Nice cologne.

gwendolen, you simply can not believe how excited I am to see you here. To think that I am responsible for luring an African representative to this site, and a damn fine-looking one to boot, is almost too much for me to handle.

You will be our official African answer lady and if any of the guys here get a little too rough on you or head their questions in an inappropriate direction, just give me a holler.

I got your back.

And I'm glad you like my cologne.

I guess it's obvious which picture captured Gus's heart... but for those with slow connections... I'll post it here as well.

Welcome to A2K, Quincy and Gwendolen. Always fascinated with people from other countries, especially indigenous music.

Welcome to a2k, Gwendolen!

I'll have to check out the park site too.

Hmmm, I could be "parco pubblico", except I'd run into the same thing I do with "ossobuco", the assumption that I am a male - well, at least at first posting glance.

I always use italian words for my usernames, part of increasing my italian vocabulary.

Hmmm, perhaps "elefante". Nope, that's male too.

Too bad, pappagallo (parrot) is male too.

So is formichiere, masculine noun, anteater.

grande felino is big cat... m. noun

rapace = bird of prey, m. noun

Somehow this isn't fair.

Ok, here are some -

tartaruga - turtle, feminine noun
tortora - turtle dove, f noun, too bad I've never seen a turtle dove
colomba - dove, f noun
giraffa - giraffe, f noun

I think I like colomba best...

I think you're smelling capybara urine, but I guess that's better than elephant poop.

Methinks that Gus is in musth, myself.

It happened to him once before, in 1957. I was in a small vehicle with him at the time, and can tell you now that it wasn't very pleasant.

Welcome to A2K, Gwendolen and Quincy. Gawd help you.

You're good, Gwendy.

I can now see why Gus has upped his personal ablutions to twice a month.
