Hi Yotamomanddad, welcome to the forum.
I am sure there is more than one answer to your riddle, but one could be the fact that: ?'THIS' is a word you can't type on the same side of a keyboard.
If you use a QWERTY keyboard, the words that ?'can' are all words that use letters on the same side of the keyboard (and can be typed with the same hand). The words that ?'can't' are split between both sides.
