Hi, Horsefarm,

I have a question for you. I have been thinking about those panthers. I don't think I've seen one in my whole life, even in a zoo.

Are they the stereotypical black panthers that they make into those fancy statues for on your mantel, or something different?

Yes, we have Bobcats, here. Once I thought I saw a reddish brown panther in my field, but the DNR said, "No way!" There aren't any panthers here.

I don't think I ever saw a live black one, though. My mother had a statue of one on her mantle for years. She cried when it broke. They really are so sleek and beautiful, but they must be terrifying in real life. Worse than a bear! Do you shoot them when they are in your barn?

They tell you there's no panthers, but there is a $5000 fine to shoot one? Even if it is in the barn attacking your horses?

We have a great zoo where I live. Actually there are two. Then there is a wildlife sanctuary for wolves and a park where they have bison, mountain goats, moose, bears, etc. and there is another one that you drive through and the bisons slobber all over you if you have your window down. They have bears there too, but they are behind gates. You can get out of your car, which of course I did. I waved at them and wanted to see if they knew sign language. I was surprised, they did. Someone had taught them previously. That was a shock.
