@littlek,
How's the storm watch? All quiet on the eastern front?

@tsarstepan,

we had another smaller rain event after the biggie, then it cleared up...

Yesterday throughout the Bay State, from Brookline, where 30 trees were uprooted and three cars were smashed by falling limbs, to the Western Massachusetts town of Southwick, where a tree crashed through a house, the storms were brief but packed strong punches, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton.

At the height of yesterday’s storms, about 20,000 NStar customers, mostly along Route 9, had no power, said Walter Salvi, an NStar spokesman. By 8:30 p.m., power remained out for 10,000 customers. Late last night, 3,438 National Grid customers were also without power, that company said.

@Region Philbis,
Yeah, here too. Hot hot hot. Inside in air conditioning or at the pool... that's about all that's bearable.

@sozobe,
It topped out between 100 and 101 at Logan, where the official Boston temp gauge is. It's nuts that it's there because the typical temp for Boston isn't reflected properly at Logan, usually.

@littlek,
I think official temperatures come from airports, and official elevations come from post offices. A decade or so ago, Farmington gained about 300 feet. This was roughly the same time as when they moved the post office. We are now higher than Denver.

Makes sense until you look and see that Logan is out on the water and at least a few degrees colder than the rest of Boston.

@littlek,

according to today's globe, yesterday was the first time we hit triple digits in 8 years, and only the 24th time in the last 100 years...

@Region Philbis,
It didn't make it much farther than downtown. Cambridge has been 10 degrees cooler than Boston for much of the last 24 hours. I thought there was some sort of mistake, but I checked a couple of weather channels and nope.

Tomorrow's forecast high of "at least 94" is expected to be the hottest day in four years in Chicago. As of yesterday, with 13 days of 90+ this year, we've had more days in the 90s this year than the previous two years combined.

we just had a heavy downpour, now the sun is out and the humidity feels like about 300%, it only felt like 200% before the rain

@djjd62,
Went to Worcester on Wednesday, during a tornado warning there (didn't know about the warning). Just saw a little lightning and some rain. Discussed the convenient placement of ditches at the side of the Mass Pike with my passengers. Another trip to lovely Worcester is planned for Monday. I hope it's less tornado-ey then.

@littlek,
Thanks, I never left the house.

Yesterday we r'cd a robo-call from Village Hall announcing a complete outdoor watering ban for all residents on wells. We haven't had much rain in a couple weeks and the water levels are getting low. Last night the skies opened up and we got about 4" of rain. The ground is saturated and there's standing water on both the front and back yards. I had a small amount of water in the basement. There's significant flooding on the roads in Chicago and many of the suburbs. Wandel's area appears to have been hit particularly hard.
