And I did go ahead and dnload the Mozzilla/Firefox browser. But it looks and operates the same as Explorer, think it's more a shell than an individual browser.. Oh well, the girls will just have to go to their friends homes I guess.
No, Firefox is built on an entirely different engine, using very different core code, than is Internet Explorer. Apart from allowing you to view webpages, the two have very little in common. In fact, some pages optimized specifically for IE will render improperly when accessed via Firefox, and vice-versa. Due to its build characteristics, Firefox offers some security/privacy advantage over IE if the latter is not properly updated and configured.
Enthusiastic claims to the contrary, Firefox is not immune to exploit, and it is just as important to see to proper updating and configuration of Firefox as with any other browser, and for that matter any operating system and any security and privacy software. The reason exploits work is that far too many folks fail to take the simple precautions necessary to prevent exploits.
Oh, and psalmstress - if you'd like actual instructions for completely clearing your system of cookies, go over to the
Computers forum and ask how its done. There's a bit more to it than clicking the "Delete Cookies" button on the "General" tab of the Internet Options Control Panel.
