There is a brilliant piece of literature.
It is classic prose.
It is a challenge to the meaning of art. The purpose of art. Who *WE* are.
The protaganist in the 'essay' is Art.
Yet, it is about so much more, in my mind.
The obvious beauty of the words, themselves.
The statements about ART.
Insight into the human psyche.
A conclusion that contradicts its basis of argument.
The writer: Oscar Wilde.
The piece written by Mr. Wilde, rocked me over, in the most quiet of ways.
Which forum would you place this multi-faceted essay?
Why there?
Am I being too obscure with 'my' question?

that is a rough one. It might have been easier if you had privided a link to the piece, so we might have gotten some insight as to the thrust of the work.
There are many ways that you can look at this. The most obvious place to post this Q is in art. Yet, if the work has a more generalized raison d'etre, one might consider putting it into philosophy. Also, where the thread would go would have to do with the question that the member poses in reference to the work.
Please don't keep us guessing. Let us know the piece of which you are speaking!
Although the medium is language, I would place it in the Arts Forum. The nuances of his writing may not be as apparent to others as they are to you, but the subject matter is the protagonist, Wilde the medium.
Well, Fatima, it would be welcome in Poetry. If you check, you'll see that I've recently added some prose lines from Shakespeare's plays, lines that hold together well enough to be considered poetry. You could put some cuts from the essay that seemed poetic enough... then add a link to the essay. I have to warn you though, that not too many people frequent the Poetry forum.
Or you could post it in Books. It was in a book, right?
Or Art. Isn't art criticism part of that forum? Hmmm, that may be your best choice.
I'll look forward to seeing this gem!
Hi Fatima, Nice to see you - although not frequently enough. I'm sort of with Phoenix on this one; Can you post a link to the "brilliant piece of literature" you spoke of? It'll provide us with a foundation for discussion. Thx, c.i.
I agree with Phoenix too. Need a link. You've whetted my appetite. Now where's the food?
Lost and found, I think
Thank you all, for your answers and input. Since the topic is about art, I followed Sumac's and piffca's suggestions, and posted ittin "ART". Here is the hyperlink:
