I dont understand how a leach is a creature of stealth or the tail cut part
A leech's mouth has some kind of anasethetic property so that an animal cannot feel that it is attached.
They used to cut leechs open so that they wouldn't feel full - they would continue to suck blood out of a body as it continued to drain out of their own.
It is just a guess though.
