for those people who are teaching or have experience with teaching english? what are the games you play with the kids and how do you play that? share with us.
In middle school I had a teacher who did a fun Rhyming game. we usually played it on fridays before the weekend and she tied it to her unit on poetry.
The game went like this: pick two words that rhyme and give blank spaces for how long the words are and the syllable count for each word. then make up a clue (kind of a riddle) that involves both words.
example 1
Someone who steals from you subconcious.
(first word four syllables, second word three syllables)
4/3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ /_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
answer: subliminal criminal.
example 2
An obese feline
(both words 1 syllable)
1/1 _ _ _ / _ _ _
answer: fat cat
example 3
a chilly place to go swimming
both words one syllable
1/1 _ _ _ / _ _ _ _
answer: cool pool
I'm sure other people who have more of a knack for this could think of somebetter puzzles, but I thought these were good examples.
this game is good b/c it practices spelling, vocabulary, and rhyming skills.
I don't know if this helps. maybe your kids are to young or haven't leaned quite enough english. maybe they have either way there you go.
i love that! that's a great one! thanks.
