walter :
it seems to me that germany - and probably the rest of europe - has had to deal with unusually severe weather lately .
i usually take a look at www.wetter.com once a day to see if it's raining in lippstadt !
i particularly like to take a look at the many webcameras displayed for most cities .
speaking of hail , we used to have some hailstorms in eastern ontario when we first moved here , also heavy thunderstorms that would shake the house were not unusual .
for the last several years we have not had any hail at all - and i don't want any !!! - , also thunderstorms have become much less severe , even though only 100 kilometers north or west there may be rather bad and damaging weather - sure hope it stays that way .
but i guess i forgot the icestorm we had in the winter of 1998 .
it brought down electrical powerlines and transmission towers , and pretty well brought much of eastern canada and the united states to a standstill - kingston was just on the edge and we didn't have any power for a week .
how quickly one forgets !

about a week after the icestorm hit , we took a drive through the countryside and the devastion was quite extensive .
i took quite a few pictures at that time - sure looked beautiful driving along country roads and seeing miles-upon-miles of ice and snow covered trees .

We're praying for hail just like that. And soon. We need a new roof, and the insurance would pay for it.

Wow, those hailstones look like they could be used as golf balls!

There's a lot of freekish weather about these days.

Once upon a time, in the '50s and '60s, we could of blamed it on the Russians, but those times are long past. Laughing

My grandmother always blamed the radio antennas in the garden, later the h-bombs for that ...
