The Green Belt of Vienna

The cornerstone for the Green Belt around Vienna was laid 100 years ago on May 24, 1905. At this time the City Council took the momentous decision to place approximately 6,000 hectares of land, mostly situated in the Vienna Woods and to the south of Vienna, under protection. Today, the Green Belt is twice as big. It's 12,000 hectares encompass the entire city, serve as valuable recreational spaces for the Viennese population and will continue to grow and enjoy protection in the future. About half of Vienna's municipal territory is composed of green spaces, such as parks, woods, gardens, cemeteries and cultivated land.

ul, That photo reminds me of a very nice place to have lunch - the Ellinghoff (or something like that) - I visited the restaurant with a group of friends during the early 1980's.

My friends are having their Grüne Hochzeit (green wedding) today.
Not yet an anniversay- they are getting married today.
She is from Japan and wanted a real traditional Austrian wedding, complete with myrtle crown and old traditons. It was lots of fun to prepare the wedding for them.
The groom will then have a traditional Japanese cerenomy in Osaka,Japan.
