Does money mean everything nowdays?
Every time my father refused to go to somewhere with me for enjoyment on weekends, I would feel the lowest the whole day.Because he was just busy in doing his own work, earning money.Money take place
of love,which hurt me most.
And also other things make me have the doubt upon money.
what about your opinion?

It is said that the love of money is the root of all evil. It's not an entirely unreasonable thesis. It is a shame that your father was so wrapped up in earning money that he did not have time for it. I hope that you will have a decent job in life which will allow you to have comfort and nice things that you want--i also hope you take a lesson, and that you make time in your life for friends and loved-ones.

When it comes to money it is important to remember that it is a means to and end, not an end in itself. There are many examples in the world of people whoaccumulate great wealth only to discover that it is worthless. Money can never compensate for a failing heatlh or still a longing heart.

But these are old songs sung again. Everyone knows this. The trick, however, is to remember it when the wheels start rolling.

Setanta, I agree that the thesis you present is not an entirely unreasonable one. I would also like to take it further and say that the root of all "evil" is the notion we retain that we can own things.

thanks!
I agree with you that a lot of people in the world just try hard to earn money to discover that all is worthless. and what means more for we people may be health and friendship
Talk of "the love of money is the root of all evil", I'd like to share something with you. someone said:a man becomes bad because of money, while a woman turns rich because of becoming bad. what do you think?

I think it is an over-simplistic and misogynistic statement.

The only time that MONEY MEANS EVERYTHING, is when you're poor, homeless and loveless. After you get a ton of money, then you start looking for other things.

Because that would explain why you think you know how people with a ton of money think. I'd guess (and it woudl be a guess - I don't have a ton of money) that people who are rich actually spend a lot of time and thought and energy trying to stay rich, and get richer. In any case, its a lot easier for me to imagine that, than to think that, upon making their fortunes, they somehow turn their attentions away.

In about 1955, we were visiting my grandparents in New York. My older brothers were going to the athlectic club to swim, and i was going to be allowed to join them. I asked my grandfather for a quarter, so i could get a soda and play the pinball machines. He said to me: "Kid, i didn't get rich by giving money away." Bella, the cook, a German refugee, gave me a quarter.

You might say that the person who is really poor is the one who counts his money...

After all, the freedom from attatchment to earthly possesion is the greatest treasure of all to some people.
