Zoe Going Under the Knife

Ok, so my furbaby is going in this Friday for her spaying. I know it's a pretty routine surgery but of course, I am worried. She will be in there from 7:30a on Friday, have her surgery during the day and then come home on Saturday morning. You can bet I will be right there at 8am when they open to pick her up.

Anyway, I've never had a dog fixed and I don't know what to expect when she gets home.

Anyone recently have this done? I know no stairs, which will suck because we have steps at both doors and her bed is upstairs. So I will be carrying a 40lb dog up stairs for about a week. Confused

But anything else I should be prepared for?

we once got a shelter dog that had recently been spayed.
i don't remember having to do anything special.

shadow's fur grew back in a few weeks(?), and we never gave it another thought.

obviously you should ask your vet about it, but from what i remember it was fairly routine...

oh jeez, you won't be having to carry her around.

the next morning she'll be running around doing her thing like nothing had happened.

really.

Oh - BTW - I was thinking about you a couple months ago....

I know you don't agree with declawing and all that, so I'm not meaning to open that can of worms, but you definatley entered my thoughts when we brought Roland home.

We had him neutered and declawed the same time, stayed overnight. Brought in him home...the next morning I watched him leap off the top of the entertainment center...hit the ground at warp 10, beamed across the room to attack Jezebel, made some fur fly......then casually walked over to get a drink of water before making the trek down to the other end of the house at 80 miles an hour.

point is....if all you're doing is spaying Zoe, she'll be just fine.

Just make sure not to dislodge the bung in her hoo-ha.

When I spayed my boxer she wouldn't be calm after surgery. As soon as she came out of her drug haze, she was romping around as usual. I slept on a loft-bed which was at least 4' off the floor. She jumped up into that bed the day after her surgery...... And she was post-fist heat - a little older than Zoe is now, I'm guessing. In retrospect, I should have kept her doped up for a few days. Anyway, she healed fine.

Good luck Zoe!

The vet told me no stairs for a week, which is where I was coming from on that.

I worry she will tear her stitches out. She is also a licker. I think she will need an e-collar

Do try to keep the e-collar on her <snicker>. Seriously. She'll get it off, but put it on when you leave anyway.

This was on another forum I frequent and it made me laugh...good thing Zoe doesn't have another dog to make fun of her.

I swear that other dog looks like he's smiling... Laughing

That's for sure.

Having the collar on will last about 10 minutes.

She did very well as far as healing goes....

Sorry I didn't update you all.

She never needed a collar, thank god. She barely even acknowledged that the incision was there.

We kept her playing to a minimum, which was frustrating and difficult but she didn't have any problems with that.

She did, however, have a bad reaction to the anaesthetic and she puked a bunch of times in the first few days.

She is doing well though. He stitches came out on Friday and her incision is healed nicely.

Very Happy

It was mostly water since she didn't feel like eating.
