It's some kind of small primate. Can't figure out which one. I've looked at aye-ayes, tarsiers, marmosets, tamarins. The face and hair are wrong.

This rodent is actually more likely to be found in the Middle East than in North Africa. It's closely related to gerbils. It's name rhymes with a kind of animal that flies.
