Not really. It's a type of shrimp. They are extremely hardy and can survive being dried up and buried (as eggs) for long periods of time.

It's a Shield Shrimp, or Tadpole Shrimp. I think they're related to "Sea Monkeys TM". They can survive as eggs in a dry state for a very long time, and are some of the first things to inhabit water holes in the desert after flash floods.
